Optimization Methods of Urban Green Space Layout on Tropical Islands to Control Heat Island Effects

open access: yesEnergies, 2022
With the rapid increase in demand for the construction and development of island cities in the South China Sea, the urban heat island phenomenon in such cities should become a key factor to be considered in future urban planning.

Iceland as a heat island

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2005
Iceland is a strong localized source of non‐eruptive volcanic warming and cooling. Temperature trend maps show that this phenomenon is localized to an area of about twice that of Iceland. With altitude the area remains constant but the phenomenon weakens and changes sign upon passing through the tropopause.

Mitigation strategies for regional heat island effects: integrated network construction of cold and heat islands

open access: yesEcological Indicators
The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect is a major environmental challenge in global urbanization. As urbanization progresses, the UHI effect in individual cities has expanded regionally, forming Regional Heat Islands (RHI). However, strategies for mitigating

The use of reflective and permeable pavements as a potential practice for heat island mitigation and stormwater management

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2013
To help address the built environmental issues of both heat island and stormwater runoff, strategies that make pavements cooler and permeable have been investigated through measurements and modeling of a set of pavement test sections.

The polycentricity of urban population will lead to improvements in urban heat island effect: Evidence from the Yangtze river delta in China

open access: yesSustainable Futures
Currently, major cities globally are universally and actively implementing strategies for the polycentric development of urban spatial structures. However, the impacts of this strategy on the ecological environment and residents' lives require further ...

Optimizing the spatial pattern of the cold island to mitigate the urban heat island effect

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2023
Numerous studies on reducing the urban heat island effect have concentrated on isolated cold islands, analyzing their cooling impact in terms of size and shape. From an international perspective, studies have shown that enhancing the connectivity of cold

Spatiotemporal evolution characteristics and driving factors of heat island effect based on territorial perspective: A case study of Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration, China

open access: yesEcological Indicators
The heat island effect has far-reaching impacts on human settlements and natural ecosystems. Current research predominantly focuses on urban areas and overlooks the broader natural ecosystems beyond urban boundaries.

La isla de calor en Toluca

open access: yesInvestigaciones Geográficas, 1979
By means of several automobile traverses the heat island of a middlesized city in a tropical highland has been determined. The observed 5º temperature contrasts are in agreement with size of urban area.

Elucidation of the Heat-Flux Limit from Magnetic-Island Heating [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2007
Recent experiments on heating of magnetic islands in a tokamak are analyzed to assess plasma transport characteristics. By comparing with the experimental data, both perpendicular and parallel components of the electron heat conductivity in the island are determined.

Analyses of Urban Pavement Surface Temperatures

open access: yesThe Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering, 2015
Heat islands are areas that have higher air temperatures than their surroundings. It has been proven that the use of certain types of pavement surface materials contributes to the occurrence of heat islands.
