The footprint of urban heat island effect in China. [PDF]

open access: yesSci Rep, 2015
AbstractUrban heat island (UHI) is one major anthropogenic modification to the Earth system that transcends its physical boundary. Using MODIS data from 2003 to 2012, we showed that the UHI effect decayed exponentially toward rural areas for majority of the 32 Chinese cities.

Regionalist principles to reduce the urban heat island effect [PDF]

open access: goldArchitecture and the Built Environment, 2017
Scientists, climatologists, and urban planners have started to recognize the importance of nature at two very different scales: the global (metabolic) and the local (liveability) scales. The regional scale is the one at which these macro and micro approaches overlap.

Mitigation strategies for regional heat island effects: integrated network construction of cold and heat islands

open access: yesEcological Indicators
The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect is a major environmental challenge in global urbanization. As urbanization progresses, the UHI effect in individual cities has expanded regionally, forming Regional Heat Islands (RHI). However, strategies for mitigating

SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL CHANGE ANALYSIS OF URBAN HEAT ISLAND EFFECT IN WUHAN CITY [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2020
China has experienced rapid urbanization and rapid development of economy in the past decades, resulting in severe damage to the urban ecological environment, causing changes in the urban thermal environment and triggering the urban heat island effect ...

Effect of Sampietrini Pavers on Urban Heat Islands [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2021
Cool pavements are reflective and/or permeable pavements that improve microclimate of urban areas where heat islands cause discomfort to citizens. Stone pavements lower surface temperatures and reduce the amount of heat absorbed. This study assessed, using ENVI-met 4.3 LITE software, how air temperature and predicted mean vote depend on physical ...

Research on the Construction Method of Heat Island Network Resistance Surface Based on County Perspective

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2023
The urban heat island effect is a typical feature of urban climates. Problems associated with urban heat islands include an increase in energy consumption and health issues resulting from a reduction in thermal comfort.

A study on the strategies of Park City construction of Chengdu from the perspective of urban heat island mitigation

open access: yesEnvironmental Science and Sustainable Development, 2022
In the process of urbanization, various urban problems have become increasingly prominent, and the heat island effect is one of them. The expansion of urban land, the increase in construction intensity and the increase in population make the urban heat ...

The urban heat island under extreme heat conditions: a case study of Hannover, Germany

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Global warming has resulted in higher frequencies of climate extremes, such as drought periods or heat waves. Heat waves are intensified in urban areas due to the urban heat island effect.
