Sources of uncertainty in the heat ratio method for estimating sap flux

To derive a whole tree's transpiration flux from the measurements of a sapflow probe, several parameters regarding the thermal properties of the wood, the conducting sapwood area, and radial sap flow velocity profiles have to be determined. Uncertainties in these parameters can be reduced by repeated sampling, which conflicts with the intention of ...

A Short Method to Compute Nusselt Numbers in Rectangular and Annular Channels With Any Ratio of Constant Heat Rate

Journal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 2010
An analytic investigation of the thermal exchanges in channels is conducted with the prospect of building a simple method to determine the Nusselt number in steady, laminar or turbulent and monodimensional flow through rectangular and annular spaces with any ratio of constant and uniform heat rate.

A new method for isotope ratio measurement of uranium in trace amount by thermal ionization mass spectrometry: The continuous heating method

International Journal of Mass Spectrometry, 2010
Abstract A new method for isotope ratio measurement with thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS), “continuous heating method”, was developed in order to determine an accurate isotope ratio of uranium ranging from sub-picograms to several dozen picograms.

Transpiration of plantation pinus radiata estimated by the heat pulse method and the bowen ratio

Hydrological Processes, 1990
AbstractThe heat pulse method was used to estimate stand transpiration from a radiata pine (Pinus radiata) plantation in southeastern Australia over a period of four days. The diurnal pattern of sapflow was related to net radiation with a time lag of about 1.5 hours.

A conservative phase-field lattice Boltzmann method for boiling heat transfer at high density ratios

Physics of Fluids
This work presents a conservative phase-field lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) for boiling heat transfer at high density ratios. This method employs the LBM for modeling unsteady flows, the finite difference method for solving the heat transfer equation, and the conservative phase-field method as the interface tracking model.
