Heat Pipe Waste Heat Recovery Boilers
Journal of Heat Recovery Systems, 1981Abstract The use of the heat pipe as a component in a heat recovery device has gained worldwide acceptance; over one million gravity-assisted heat pipes are now installed in commercial and industrial heat recovery applications. Heat pipes are passive, highly reliable and offer high heat transfer rates.

Heat is recovered by combining a heat transfer system including heat exchangers interconnected in a circulatory system, with a heat pump system. The heat pump system is preferably operated in accordance with the Lorenz-Principle. It is not necessary to divide the heat carrier circuit of the heat pump into two or three separate circulatory circuits. The

If the flow of refrigerant in a cooling system is reversed, the heat exchanger which was the evaporator becomes the condenser and vice versa and the flow of energy is reversed. Reversing valves may be fitted to cooling circuits in order to divert hot gas for defrosting the evaporator or to provide heat in winter to a conditioned space.

Abstract Adsorption heat pumps (or refrigerators) and heat transformers are possible application modes for heat recovery purposes. The primary energy efficiency is higher for them; they have many other advantages over the conventional heat pump systems, if proper adsorbent-adsorbate pairs are used they become a very effective device for utilization ...

All refrigeration systems are heat pump (HP) such that heat is pumped from a cool environment to a warmer one, so the sole purpose of a heat pump is to deliver heat. The HP type and performance is characterized by the nature of the source, that is, the medium from which heat is extracted by the evaporator, and the sink, that is the distribution of heat

All perform one basic function-the transfer of heat across rigid and impermeable boundaries. Some common types of commercially available waste heat recovery devices are discussed in detail. Heat pumps offer only limited opportunities for waste heat recovery, since the cost of owning and operating the heat pump may exceed the value of the waste heat ...

Nowadays, more and more issues are being raised to address the need for sufficient energy security by minimizing its carbon footprint, which is also tied to the use and conversion of thermal energy. Until now, almost all of the energy produced has been obtained by direct use of fossil fuels through thermodynamic conversion of heat into mechanical work.

Many exothermic reactions are carried out in the Chemical Process Industries and these result in raising the temperatures of the process fluids. Since the cost of energy is rising continuously, it has become imperative to maximise the heat recovery. The process design and plant layouts shall always be made in a manner to achieve this aim.

Heat transfer is a living science and technical advances are constantly being made. However, in many cases, progress is limited by the equipment that is available on the market, rather than by knowledge of the heat transfer process. A case in point is the design of economizers: in such equipment a small quantity of water (with a relatively good heat ...
