Energy and cost savings potential of oscillating heat pipes for waste heat recovery ventilation

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2017
The feasibility of using finned oscillating heat pipes (OHPs) for heat exchange between counter-flowing air streams in HVAC air systems (i.e., outdoor and exhaust air flows), along with the associated cost savings in typical North American climates, is ...

Geothermal Energy Use for the Additional Heat Supply of a Residential Building

open access: yesSlovak Journal of Civil Engineering, 2020
To ensure low-energy consumption in new generation energy-efficient houses, the technology of a ground heat exchanger with a heat recovery system is used almost everywhere. However, this technology has not been widely disseminated in Ukraine. The work is

Ensuring cost-effective heat exchanger network design for non-continuous processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The variation in stream conditions over time inevitably adds significant complexity to the task of integrating non-continuous processes. The Time Averaging Method (TAM), where stream conditions are simply averaged across the entire time cycle, leads to ...

Environmental aspects of heat recovery systems of boiler plants [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
The results of studies on improving the environmental characteristics of boiler plants of municipal heat-power engineering in the application of technologies for the deep recovery of heat from exhaust-gases of gas-fired boilers are presented. The data on

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
