Creating Ti–Fe α/β Alloys by Diffusion‐Driven Solid‐State Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes making alloys containing fast diffusing elements that are difficult to produce by ingot metallurgy, by diffusion‐driven solid‐state HIP processing of elemental powders and low‐temperature homogenisation. Here, novel Fe‐Ti α–β alloys are formed having fine α–β lamellae, a small β prior grain size without significant intermetallics ...

Characterization of Macro/Microstructure and Corrosion Resistance of Austenitic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Cladding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cladding is a proven method that boosts the surface qualities of mechanical parts by applying a layer of more durable material over a base substrate. This work responds to the needs of offshore and pressure vessels sectors by focusing on cladding a super austenitic steel onto low‐carbon steel through gas tungsten arc welding.

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Impact of Pre‐Oxidation Treatments on a Recycled MgO/Steel‐Composite as Carbon Free Anode in Aluminum‐Electrolysis Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...

Heat current limiter and constant heat current source

Physical Review E, 2012
Current limiters and constant current sources, which play important roles in electronic circuits, have been built up for many decades. Their thermal counterparts, heat current limiters and constant heat current sources, are still not available yet. By combining two typical nonlinear lattices, the Frenkel-Kontorova (FK) lattice and a coupled rotator ...

Relativistic moving heat source

International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2005
Abstract The relativistic heat conduction (RHCE) model is particularly important in the analysis of processes involving moving heat sources (MHS) at speeds or frequencies comparable with those of heat propagation in the medium. This paper establishes a unified framework for solving heat conduction problems using the RHCE model. It offers “Fundamental

Radiant heat gain from indoor heat sources

Heat and Mass Transfer, 2005
A new parameter, equivalent emissivity, ee, is introduced to reflect radiant feature of the surface of a heat source with different shapes and different temperatures in an air conditioned room. Radiant heat gain from medium- or low-surface-temperature equipment and from commonly used light fixtures and the occupant are examined and analyzed in detail ...
