Investigation of Novel Composite Materials for Thermochemical Heat Storage Systems

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Increasing energy prices make space heating more expensive every year in The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries.

Thermal Stratification in Heat Storages [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
The term “thermal stratification” suggests a discontinuous temperaturefield. Though such is impossible the term corresponds well with our image of the phenomenon. In general we understand by thermal stratification a non scalar temperature-field, - more particular in a fluid medium, - which is an increasing function of only the elevation.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Acute caffeine treatment protects the developing retina from ischemia‐induced cell death

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Caffeine reduces cell death in the developing retina under ischemia (OGD). This effect does not involve BDNF upregulation or antioxidant pathways (NRF2/VEGF). Neuroprotection occurs mainly through adenosine A2A receptor antagonism, decreasing glutamate release and excitotoxicity, highlighting caffeine's potential as an acute neuroprotective agent in ...

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Study and optimization on heat storage and release characteristics of a cascaded sensible-latent heat composite energy storage heat sink

open access: yesEnergy and Built Environment
The energy storage is an effective solution for the current imbalance between energy supply and demand. In particular, the cascaded storage method can enhance the heat exchange temperature difference and heat storage efficiency.

A yeast model of 5‐oxoproline accumulation reveals a general toleration to 5‐oxoproline

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a yeast model, we show that even high accumulation of 5‐oxoproline causes only mild cellular stress and does not trigger oxidative stress. Instead, cells adapt by activating efflux pumps and diverse protective pathways, suggesting that previously proposed harmful effects of 5‐oxoproline may arise from indirect metabolic imbalances rather than the

Experimental Study on Characteristics of Spiral Tube Heat Storage Tank for CASHP

open access: yesZhileng xuebao, 2017
The performance of a spiral-tube heat storage tank added to a traditional cascade air source heat pump was experimentally investigated. The water temperature of different measuring points and the refrigerant temperature at the inlet and outlet of the ...
