PV Efficiency Improvement by Underground Heat Exchanging and Heat Storage

3rd Renewable Power Generation Conference (RPG 2014), 2014
High efficiency in the photovoltaic (PV) panel is a relevant matter when considering the high investments for this energy source. This paper presents a PV panel efficiency improvement by heating water and heat storage as surface geothermal energy. The whole set consists of a PV panel, a heat exchanger located on the PV backside, underground hoses for ...

Collector and storage efficiencies in solar heating systems

Solar Energy, 1979
A general definition of the effective efficiency of solar collector operating in a solar energy system is presented which gives a fair method of comparison of different collectors operating in that particular application. Based on comparison between the area required for the actual collector and that of a perfect collector-both giving the same fraction

Thermodynamic Efficiency of Pumped Heat Electricity Storage

Physical Review Letters, 2013
Pumped heat electricity storage (PHES) has been recently suggested as a potential solution to the large-scale energy storage problem. PHES requires neither underground caverns as compressed air energy storage (CAES) nor kilometer-sized water reservoirs like pumped hydrostorage and can therefore be constructed anywhere in the world.

Direct Contact Latent Heat Storage for Efficiency Enhancement of Heat Pumps

Chemie Ingenieur Technik, 2017

Energetic and exergetic efficiency of latent heat storage system for greenhouse heating

Renewable Energy, 1999
In this research, solar energy has been stored using the paraffin with the latent heat technique for heating the plastic greenhouse of 180 m2. Energy and exergy analyses were applied for evaluation of the system efficiency. An average values of the rates of heat and thermal exergy stored into the HSU were 1 740 W and 60 W for the charging periods.

Comparison of storage density and efficiency for cascading adsorption heat storage and sorption assisted water storage

Energy, 2020
Abstract Storage of thermal energy can be important for compensating the mismatch between demand and supply of energy, especially due to fluctuating renewable energy sources. Within this study, two different system concepts of thermal energy storage involving sorption effects are analysed in a simulation study with the aim of increasing storage ...

Efficient simulation of multiple borehole heat exchanger storage sites

Environmental Earth Sciences, 2016
In this paper, an adapted model is developed for borehole heat exchangers (BHEs) to simulate geothermal applications such as heat storage on a large scale efficiently and with high accuracy. The adapted numerical model represents all BHE components, allowing for a detailed representation of the governing processes.

Heat transfer efficient thermal energy storage for steam generation

Energy Conversion and Management, 2010
Abstract A novel reflux heat transfer storage (RHTS) concept for producing high-temperature superheated steam in the temperature range 350–400 °C was developed and tested. The thermal storage medium is a metallic substance, Zinc–Tin alloy, which serves as the phase change material (PCM).

Estimations of energy density and storage efficiency for cascading adsorption heat storage concepts

International Journal of Refrigeration, 2019
Abstract Thermal energy storage can play an important role to reduce the mismatch between energy demand and supply. This work presents two cascading systems with the aim to increase energy density and storage efficiency. Furthermore, the influence of the system volume on the energy density is depicted compared to only including the volume of the ...
