The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Response of the persistence of heat stress tolerance in winter wheat seedling to heat priming at early growth stages

open access: yesPlant Stress
This study aimed to investigate the impact of heat priming on the heat stress tolerance of winter wheat seedlings. A hydroponic experiment was conducted with four treatments i.e.

Functional genomic approaches to improve crop plant heat stress tolerance [version 1; peer review: 2 approved]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2019
Heat stress as a yield limiting issue has become a major threat for food security as global warming progresses. Being sessile, plants cannot avoid heat stress.

Analysis of circulating-microRNA expression in lactating Holstein cows under summer heat stress.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
Korean peninsula weather is rapidly becoming subtropical due to global warming. In summer 2018, South Korea experienced the highest temperatures since the meteorological observations recorded in 1907.

Heat stress management in poultry [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, 2021
AbstractHigh ambient temperature is one of the major causes of economic losses in the livestock industry. The poultry industry is an integral part of the livestock industry. It faces severe losses due to heat stress (HS). The adverse effects of HS can be seen on production performance, body temperature, intestinal health, appetite hormone regulation ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Mapping responsive genomic elements to heat stress in a maize diversity panel

open access: yesGenome Biology, 2022
Background Many plant species exhibit genetic variation for coping with environmental stress. However, there are still limited approaches to effectively uncover the genomic region that regulates distinct responsive patterns of the gene across multiple ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Heat Priming and Heat Stress Enhance Transgenerational Heat Tolerance in the Early Growth Stages of Oryza sativa L. Progeny

open access: yesPlants
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is a staple crop that provides essential nutrients and energy; however, it is sensitive to heat stress, posing a threat to sustainable productivity.

Heat stress and stallion fertility

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science and Technology, 2023
The threat posed by increased surface temperatures worldwide has attracted the attention of researchers to the reaction of animals to heat stress. Spermatogenesis in animals such as stallions is a temperature-dependent process, ideally occurring at temperatures slightly below the core body temperature.
