On the effects of high-order scattering in 3D cubical and rectangular furnaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The discrete ordinates method (DOM/Sn) is implemented to investigate the high order scattering effects of absorbing–emitting–scattering grey gas media inside the three-dimensional cubical and rectangular furnaces.

Shaping of Biohybrid Functional Living Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a strategy for shaping living mycelium into functional materials by directing its natural growth. Nanoparticles armor hyphae, micron‐scale particles entangle within the network, and printed hydrogel architectures steer expansion, creating defined geometries.

Influence of vibration parameters and fin structure parameters on heat transfer performance under vibration conditions

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
The occurrence of vibration in engineering vehicles during operation is a common phenomenon, and the utilization of vibration-enhanced heat transfer serves as a viable approach to enhance the efficiency of heat transfer in radiators. This study designs a

An Inverse Geometry Problem for the Localization of Skin Tumours by Thermal Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
In this paper, the Dual Reciprocity Method (DRM) is coupled to a Genetic Algorithm (GA) in an inverse procedure through which the size and location of a skin tumour may be obtained from temperature measurements at the skin surface.

Artifact‐Minimizing Ultrathin Transparent Electrodes Fabricated via iCVD for In Vivo Optogenetic Stimulation and Neural Signal Monitoring of Primary Visual Cortex

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present ultrathin flexible transparent electrodes through iCVD‐enabled molecular control of 10 nm gold films on poly(dimethylaminomethylstyrene). In vivo validation demonstrated photoelectric artifact reduction vs. opaque electrodes and preservation of natural neural dynamics.

Non-Newtonian Convective Heat Transfer in Annuli: Numerical Investigation on the Effects of Staggered Helical Fins

open access: yesFluids
Despite non-Newtonian fluids being involved in many industrial processes, e.g., in food and chemical industries, their thermal treatment still represents a significant challenge due to their generally high apparent viscosity and consequent low heat ...
