Thermal radiation is the dominant mode of heat transfer in flames with characteristic lengths exceeding approximately 0.2 m. It is for this reason that quantitative analysis of fire dynamics requires a working knowledge of thermal radiation. This chapter will introduce the fundamentals of thermal radiation and offer several methods for calculating ...

On thermal waves and radiating heat transfer
Acta Physica Hungarica, 1991Splitting up the heat flow into several parts and applying the basic ideas of Gyarmati’s wave approach of thermodynamics, a systematic thermodynamical analysis is given for radiating heat transfer. The possible transformations make clear that the above splitting can be done so that the different parts of the radiating heat transfer are independent of ...

A Thermodynamic Theory for Radiating Heat Transfer
Journal of Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics, 1990In a previous paper [1] we investigated what influence the scalar dynamic variables had on heat propagation. In this paper we study that of vectorial dynamic degrees of freedom. We point out that the phenomena described this way are heat propagation by electromagnetic radiation and/or acoustic waves and/or electron ...

In this chapter, heat transfer by radiation in porous media is examined. The medium may be treated either as a single continuum or as a collection of particles (i.e., scatterers). In the particle-based analysis, the interaction of radiation with a collection of elements of the solid matrix (e.g., particles in a packed bed) is considered.

Solar Radiation and Heat Transfer
2017Solar energy (i.e., from the Sun) is an ample source of energy in the universe. The Sun is responsible for all renewable energy sources to meet the need of all creatures (living organisms) such that their survival is not possible without solar energy reaching our planet. Solar radiation is the radiant energy emitted by the Sun (by way of nuclear fusion)

Radiation Heat Transfer is an introductory text on radiation heat transfer. It starts from the basic physical principles of thermal radiation, and then goes on to develop methods for the calculation of view factors, rates of heat transfer between surfaces, effects of intervening gases, and the treatment of combined modes of heat ...

Heat transfer by thermal radiation is transfer of heat by electromagnetic waves. It is different from conduction and convection as it requires no matter or medium to be present. The radiative energy will pass perfectly through vacuum as well as clear air.

A paradox in radiation heat transfer
Resonance, 2007Heat transfer between two surfaces usually increases when the temperature difference between the two surfaces increases. Here we highlight an unusual situation in radiation heat transfer wherein the heat transfer decreases when the temperature difference increases.
