Temperature, heat transport and dislocations

open access: yesAtti della Accademia Peloritana dei Pericolanti : Classe di Scienze Fisiche, Matematiche e Naturali, 2016
We examine three basic aspects of the relation between dislocations and heat transport: a) the role of dislocations on thermal conductivity; b) the contribution of dislocations flux to the heat flux, and c) the definition of dislocation temperature in non-equilibrium states.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Universal Heat Transport in Sr2RuO4

open access: yesPhysical review letters, 2002
We present the temperature dependence of the thermal conductivity kappa(T) of the unconventional superconductor Sr_2RuO_4 down to low temperatures (100 mK). In T -> 0 K limit we found a finite residual term in kappa/T, providing clear evidence for the superconducting state with an unconventional pairing.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Vibrations of Circular Metal-Polymeric Plates on an Elastic Foundation. Part II. Forced Vibrations

open access: yesМеханика машин, механизмов и материалов, 2009
The axisymmetrical forced vibrations of elastic circular three-layer metal-polymeric plate on en elastic foundation are explored under action of divided local loadings: rectangular, sinusoidal, parabolic.

Global meridional eddy heat transport inferred from Argo and altimetry observations

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
Proportion and pathways of the eddy-induced heat transport are critical in maintaining world’s ocean and climate states. However, an observation-based three-dimensional picture of how oceanic eddies contribute to the global heat transport is yet not ...

Heat transport through atomic contacts. [PDF]

open access: yesNature Nanotechnology, 2016
Heat transport and dissipation at the nanoscale severely limit the scaling of high-performance electronic devices and circuits. Metallic atomic junctions serve as model systems to probe electrical and thermal transport down to the atomic level as well as

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
