Nondestructive Testing of Welded Composite Metal Foams
X‐ray computed tomography (CT) is used to evaluate welded steel–steel composite metal foam (CMF) joints of two density classes. It reports variation in postweld spatial void distribution and correlates it to weld‐induced changes, mechanical performance, and failure within welded CMF panels.

Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...

Interfacial heat transport in nano-carbon assemblies
Carbon, 2021Although the individual one- and two-dimensional (1D and 2D) carbon nanostructures possess extremely high thermal conductivity, their macroscopic assemblies do not efficiently utilize it due to the larger interfacial contact thermal resistance.

Study on shell side heat transport enhancement of double tube heat exchangers by twisted oval tubes
, 2021The shell side heat transport enhancement characteristics of double tube heat exchangers composed of twisted oval tubes alone and twisted oval tubes coupled with circular tubes is investigated numerically in the range of Reynolds number from 2700 to 22 ...

The character of heat transport by cellular convection, which arises beyond the marginal state of stability in a layer of fluid bound between two constant temperature surfaces is examined. It is shown that a simple equation characterizes the heat transport in the neighborhood of the marginal state of stability when the convection is steady, and its ...

Poleward heat transport by the atmospheric heat engine
Nature, 2002The atmospheric heat transport on Earth from the Equator to the poles is largely carried out by the mid-latitude storms. However, there is no satisfactory theory to describe this fundamental feature of the Earth's climate. Previous studies have characterized the poleward heat transport as a diffusion by eddies of specified horizontal length and ...
