Localized Laser Heat Treatment on AISI 1045 Steel Using a LPBF Laser

open access: yesEngineering Reports
Laser heat treatment (LHT) can provide local microstructure modification for metallic materials. This study investigates the viability of LHT on AISI 1045 steel using a laser designed for laser powder bed processing (LPBF) with a very small beam diameter

The Influence of Physical Treatments on Phytochemical Changes in Fresh Produce after Storage and Marketing

open access: yesAgronomy, 2021
More food with high nutritional content will be needed to feed the growing global human population, which is expected to reach 10 billion by 2050. Fruits and vegetables contain most of the minerals, micronutrients, and phytonutrients essential for human ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Thermal treatment and mechanical properties of aluminum-2021 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
Mechanical properties, after thermal treatments, are summarized for sheet and plate of copper-rich, high-strength, heat-treatable aluminum-2021. The alloy is quench sensitive, quench rate and variations in aging affect corrosion behavior.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Improvement of prediction accuracy of phase transformation in steel during induction hardening by considering autocatalysis

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2015
Residual stress that is mainly caused by heat treatment is one of the important factors in mechanical products such as internal combustion engines, since it affects the maintenance of peak performance and operational durability in competitive scenarios ...

Thermal conductivity of suspended pristine graphene measured by Raman spectroscopy

open access: yes, 2011
The thermal conductivity of suspended single-layer graphene was measured as a function of temperature using Raman scattering spectroscopy on clean samples prepared directly on a prepatterned substrate by mechanical exfoliation without chemical treatments.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).
