Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

Vermamoeba vermiformis resides in water-based heater-cooler units and can enhance Mycobacterium chimaera survival after chlorine exposure. [PDF]
Background Mycobacterium chimaera colonizes water-based heater–cooler units (HCUs), from which it can spread to patients during surgery. Vermamoeba vermiformis is a free-living waterborne amoeba, which was consistently present within HCUs.

ABSTRACT Objective Progression independent of relapse activity is a major determinant of long‐term disability in multiple sclerosis, but its immunopathologic basis remains incompletely understood. We investigated whether relapse‐independent progression in radiologically stable relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis is associated with distinct ...

Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

The heater-cooler unit--a conceivable source of infection.
Even drinking water is contaminated with pathogenic microorganisms. This does not necessarily pose a risk for healthy individuals, but it may result in serious consequences in people with impaired immune systems. This is particularly valid if drinking water is used for medical purposes.

A Knowledge‐Based Approach for Understanding and Managing Additive Manufacturing Data
Additive manufacturing processes generate a large amount of data. Effectively managing, understanding, and retrieving information from this data remains a major challenge. Therefore, we propose an ontology‐based approach to integrate heterogeneous data, enable semantic queries, and support decision‐making.

Heater cooler and Mycobacterium chimaera
Mycobacterium chimaera (MC) was identified in some patients who underwent surgery operations. Literature has identified as possible means of contamination condensed water from heater-cooler devices (HCDs) which is aerosolized during operation ...

We are in the midst of a global outbreak of Mycobacterium chimaera infections related to a point source contamination of a widely used surgical device, the 3T heater-cooler unit. More than 250000 heart bypass procedures using heater-cooler devices are performed in the United States every year. It is estimated that 60% of these operations use the device
