Metamorphic Inheritance, Lower‐Crustal Earthquakes, and Continental Rifting
Abstract The Malawi Rift is localized within Precambrian amphibolite‐granulite facies metamorphic belts, bounded by up to 150 km long border faults, and generates earthquakes throughout ∼40 km thick crust. Rift‐related faults are inferred to exploit pre‐existing weaknesses that allow rifting of otherwise dry and strong crust.

PHYSICAL AND NUMERICAL MODELLING OF HEAT-FLOW PROCESSES IN TANGENTIALLY PULVERIZED FUEL-FIRED BOILER
The paper presents results of three-dimensional physical modelling and computer simulations of fluid-flow structures, mixing and combustion processes in a 125MW tangentially fuel-fired boiler and additional fuel – natural gas.

Geothermal and seismic evidence for a southeastern continuation of the three pagodas fault zone into the Gulf of Thailand [PDF]
Aerial photographic maps and landsat image interpretations suggest the major fault segments of the Three PagodaFault (TPF) Zone and Sri Swat Fault (SSF) Zone are oriented parallel or sub-parallel in the same NW-SE directions. The KwaeNoi River is running

Influence of normal faults and basement topography on ridge-flank hydrothermal fluid circulation
Mid-ocean ridge-flank hydrothermal fluid circulation is drawing increasing attention since about 70 per cent of the advective heat flux through oceanic crust occurs on ridge flanks.

Validation of a 3D numerical model of a buoyant plume [PDF]
In order to model cooling water plumes from power station into a tidal current a three dimensional unsteady model is required. This is because the complicated interaction of current oscillation with plume buoyancy produces plume shapes which are ...

Control of energy transmission through walls and windows
S.3503New flexible shading and isolation devices were developed to vary the transparency for solar radiation and heatflow through building facades in such a way, that optimal thermal comfort is obtained throughout the year at a maximum solar utilisation.
