Heat And Heat-Related Illnesses

AJN, American Journal of Nursing, 1981
Certain groups of people can be identified as high-risk in relation to these illnesses. Athletes and military personnel who are undergoing rigorous training and conditioning in hot, humid weather are particularly vulnerable. From 1941 to 1944, 125 fatal cases of heat stroke were documented among United States Army recruits in basic training(4).

HEAT EXCHANGER FOR IN-GROUND HEAT STORAGE

Chemical Engineering Communications, 1980
The first phase of a research project using undisturbed soil for sensible heat storage is described. A laboratory scale model of a heat exchange system was constructed and tested. Thermal charging and recovery rates, modes of heat transport and transient temperature conditions, as well as over-all heat storage performance of the unit are given.

Heat Transfer Effectiveness of Heat Pipes

Journal of Heat Recovery Systems, 1982
Abstract Heat transfer effectiveness (recovery factor), HTE, of one heat pipe, HP, is defined as the function of two dimensionless groups of NTU type (number of transfer units) from the] evaporator and the condenser. In the case of the HP heat exchanger it is demonstrated that the HTE is a function made up of only three elements, viz; the HTE of the ...

Possibilities of heat pumps for heating homes

Electrical Engineering, 1944
Heat pumps are refrigerating systems in which the principal interest is in the heat given off by the condenser. A portion of this comes from the electric input to the compressor and the remainder from cooling an external source of heat, usually outdoor air.
