Sol-air heating and cooling degree-days

Solar Energy, 1984
Abstract A set of relationships is developed which allow the estimation of sol-air heating and cooling degree-days at any base temperature. The method makes use of existing relationships for hourly utilizability and degree-days, and the only input required is the monthly-average solar radiation and ambient temperature.

Heating Degree Day Data Applied to Residential Heating Energy Consumption

Journal of Applied Meteorology, 1980
Abstract Site-specific total electric energy and heating oil consumption for individual residences show a very high correlation with National Weather Service airport temperature data when transformed to heating degree days. Correlations of regional total residential electrical consumption with airport heating degree days for about 40 000 dwelling units

An Explicit Distribution to Model the Proportion of Heating Degree Day and Cooling Degree Day

Communications in Statistics - Simulation and Computation, 2014
With a view to estimating the energy consumption, we derive the explicit distribution of the proportion X/(X + Y) when X and Y follow the new Bivariate Affine-Linear Exponential distribution. An application of this distribution to model the proportion of heating using the heating degree day and the cooling degree day data in the State of Alabama for ...

Characteristics of Heating Degree Days and Cooling Degree Days in Beijing During Last 50 Years

2011 Fourth International Joint Conference on Computational Sciences and Optimization, 2011
Degree-day is a quantitative index demonstrated to reflect the demand for energy to heat or cool houses and businesses. In this paper, the 18°C threshold temperature is chosen in Beijing. The homogenized mean daily temperature series during 1960-2009 in Beijing Weather Observatory is collected to calculate HDD and CDD.

Weather data and heating-degree days for Saudi Arabia

Energy, 1996
We present monthly-average maximum, minimum and mean temperatures and the medians of extreme temperatures for 24 weather stations in Saudi Arabia. Heating-degree days are also given for these locations.

Using modified multiple heating-degree-day (HDD) and cooling-degree-day (CDD) indices to estimate building heating and cooling loads

Energy and Buildings, 2020
Abstract There is substantial confusion in the literature concerning the appropriate reference temperatures to use for the computation of heating-degree-day (HDD) and cooling-degree-day (CDD) indices, with the former ranging from 10 to 20 °C and the latter ranging from 10 to 28 °C.

Variability of Population-Weighted Seasonal Heating Degree Days

Journal of Climate and Applied Meteorology, 1983
Abstract Regional and national heating fuel demand is related to both weather and population density. This study analyzes the variability of population-weighted, seasonal heating degree days for the coterminous 48 states. A risk assessment of unusual weather-related beating energy demand, based on a Gaussian distribution model, is provided. Nationally,

Heating and cooling degree day prediction within the London urban heat island area

Building Services Engineering Research and Technology, 2009
This paper describes the London Site Specific Air Temperature prediction model, which comprises of a suite of artificial neural network (ANN) models to predict site-specific hourly air temperature within the Greater London Area (GLA). The model was developed using a back-propagation ANN model based on hourly air temperature measurements at 77 fixed ...

Spatial Heating Monthly Degree-Day Features and ClimatologicPatterns in Turkey

Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 1999
Degree-days as a measure of accumulated temperature deviations from a base temperature have many practical applications in various human related activities such as home cooling, heating, plant growth in agriculture and power generation in addition to energy requirement.

Heating/cooling degree days and building energy consumption in Pakistan

2015 Power Generation System and Renewable Energy Technologies (PGSRET), 2015
Pakistan suffers a continuous energy crisis and needs all out efforts to overcome this problem. The use of locally available renewable energy and energy conservation offers a viable solution to the energy crisis. As Pakistan consumes 50% of its primary energy in the building sector, and therefore, it offers a huge potential for energy saving. The study
