Impact of adjustment strategies on building design process in different climates oriented by multiple performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Adjustment strategies including window ventilation and shading have important improvements in energy consumption, thermal and light environments, furthermore, the upper limit for improvement is affected by design parameters.

Rebuttal to "Comment by V.M. Krasnov on 'Counterintuitive consequence of heating in strongly-driven intrinsic junctions of Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d Mesas' " [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In our article [1], we found that with increasing dissipation there is a clear, systematic shift and sharpening of the conductance peak along with the disappearance of the higher-bias dip/hump features (DHF), for a stack of intrinsic Josephson junctions (

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Temperature evolution of dense gold and diamond heated by energetic laser-driven aluminum ions

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Recent studies have shown that energetic laser-driven ions with some energy spread can heat small solid-density samples uniformly. The balance among the energy losses of the ions with different kinetic energies results in uniform heating.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Mid-infrared LEDs versus thermal emitters in IR dynamic scene simulation devices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In a radical departure from conventional thermal emitter-based dynamic IR scene simulation devices, we have tested InAsSbP/InAs LEDs grown by liquid phase epitaxy and tuned at several peak-emitting wavelengths inside the mid-IR band.

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...
