Parallel Approaches in the Heavy Ball GMRES Method

2019 31st International Symposium on Computer Architecture and High Performance Computing (SBAC-PAD), 2019
Linear system is a useful mathematical model that is used in many research areas. This paper presents a parallelism study that considers a recent iterative method to solve large sparse linear systems, called Heavy Ball Generalized Minimal Residual (HBGMRES) method.

Heavy Ball Flexible GMRES Method for Nonsymmetric Linear Systems

Journal of Computational Mathematics, 2022
Flexible GMRES (FGMRES) is a variant of preconditioned GMRES, which changes preconditioners at every Arnoldi step. GMRES often has to be restarted in order to save storage and reduce orthogonalization cost in the Arnoldi process. Like restarted GMRES, FGMRES may also have to be restarted for the same reason.

The multidimensional n-th order heavy ball method and its application to extremum seeking

53rd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2014
In this paper the extension of the heavy ball method to n-th order integrator dynamics is considered. We propose a gradient based controller that achieves to find the extremum of a function depending on multiple variables and prove asymptotic stability for all functions from the set of strongly convex functions.

Local Convergence of the Heavy Ball Method in Iterative Hard Thresholding for Low-rank Matrix Completion

ICASSP 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2019
We present a momentum-based accelerated iterative hard thresholding (IHT) for low-rank matrix completion. We analyze the convergence of the proposed Heavy Ball (HB) accelerated IHT near the solution and provide optimal step size parameters that guarantee the fastest rate of convergence.
