Controlled Engineering of 2D Alkali‐Iron‐Chloride Compounds and Lateral Quantum Heterostructures Within Confined Graphene Nanoreactors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a programmable atomic engineering strategy for 2D materials using Å‐scale nanoreactors formed by bilayer graphene (BLG) intercalation. A new class of alkali‐iron‐chloride compounds, along with lateral heterostructures composed of monolayer alkali halides and iron chlorides, is revealed.

Heavy metal distribution in mangrove sediment cores from selected sites along western coast of India

open access: yesJournal of Threatened Taxa, 2016
Sediment cores were collected from four different mangrove areas of northern Kerala and southern Karnataka, western coast of India.  The cores were analysed for the concentration of five heavy metals (Pb, Ni, Zn, Cu Fe) using Atomic Absorption ...

Complex toxic effects of Cd2+, Zn2+, and acid rain on growth of kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Complex toxic effects of Cd2+, Zn2+, and acid rain on growth of kidney bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L) were studied in a pot experiment by measurement of fresh weights of the plants, determination of surperoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), and lipid ...

Atomized Oxidative Polymerization as a 3D Printing Platform for Binder‐Free, Bulk Conductive Polymer Architectures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Co‐delivery of electrosprayed EDOT and oxidant enables bulk oxidative polymerization during layer‐by‐layer fabrication, creating stable, highly conductive 3D PEDOT structures. This Atomized Oxidative Polymerization (AOP) overcomes the surface deposition‐only and matrix‐limited conductivity of conventional Vapor Phase Polymerization (VPP) and PEDOT:PSS ...

The accumulation of the stress metabolite praline in plantago lanceolata as a response to lead pollution [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The amino acid proline is known to accumulate in the tissues of several plant species as a result of environmental stress. High concentrations of certain toxic metals are one form of stress that can induce proline accumulation, and in some cases praline ...

Time‐Resolved Magnetization Switching Dynamics Driven by Orbital Torques

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Du et al. reveal nanosecond magnetization switching driven by orbital currents using time‐resolved Hall detection. The measurements separate domain nucleation from domain wall propagation and show that Joule heating strongly assists switching by lowering energy barriers.

Interactions between cadmium and lead with acidic soils: Experimental evidence of similar adsorption patterns for a wide range of metal concentrations and the implications of metal migration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The importance of high- and low-affinity surface sites for cadmium and lead adsorption in typical European and Asian soils was investigated. Adsorption experiments on surface and deep horizons of acidic brown (Vosges, France) and red loess soils (Hunan ...

Contribution of atmospheric deposition to heavy-metal concentrations in field crops.

open access: yesNetherlands Journal of Agricultural Science, 1990
Lolium multiflorum, spring wheat cv. Adonis, carrots and spinach were grown in the field and in a dust-free growth chamber in pots containing soil labelled with 109Cd and 210Pb. The contribution of atmospheric Cd and Pb deposition to plant concn was examined by isotope dilution.
