Flavor physics in the quark sector [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In the past decade, one of the major challenges of particle physics has been to gain an in-depth understanding of the role of quark flavor. In this time frame, measurements and the theoretical interpretation of their results have advanced tremendously. A

Measurement of the differential cross-section of B + meson production in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV at ATLAS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The production cross-section of B + mesons is measured as a function of transverse momentum p T and rapidity y in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energy s√=7 TeV, using 2.4 fb−1 of data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron ...

Data-driven extraction of heavy quark diffusion in quark-gluon plasma

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields, 2020
Heavy quark production provides a unique probe of the quark-gluon plasma transport properties in heavy ion collisions. Experimental observables like the nuclear modification factor $$R_\mathrm{AA}$$ RAA and elliptic anisotropy $$v_\mathrm{2}$$ v2 of ...

Prompt atmospheric neutrino flux from the various QCD models

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
We evaluate the prompt atmospheric neutrino flux using the different QCD models for heavy quark production including the b quark contribution. We include the nuclear correction and find it reduces the fluxes by 10% – 50% according to the models.

Overview of open heavy-flavour and quarkonia measurements with ALICE [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2022
Heavy-flavour hadrons, i.e. hadrons containing charm or beauty quarks, are effective probes to test perturbative-QCD (pQCD) calculations, to investigate the different hadronisation mechanisms, and to study the quark–gluon plasma (QGP) produced in ...

Measurement of the Top Quark Mass in the Dilepton Final State using the Matrix Element Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The top quark, discovered in 1995 by the CDF and D0 experiments at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, is the heaviest known fundamental particle. The precise knowledge of its mass yields important constraints on the mass of the yet-unobserved Higgs boson ...

Production of heavy quarks and heavy quarkonia [PDF]

open access: yesZeitschrift für Physik C: Particles and Fields, 1996
Uncertainties in the next-to-leading-order calculations of heavy-quark ($Q$) production are investigated. Predictions for total cross sections, single-inclusive distributions of heavy quarks and heavy flavoured hadrons, as well as for $Q\bar{Q}$ correlations, are compared with charm and bottom data.

Open heavy flavor measurements in d+Au collisions at PHENIX experiment

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2014
The heavy quarks produced in the early stage of heavy-ion collisions are very effective probes of the dense partonic medium produced at RHIC. PHENIX has the ability to measure heavy quark production through single electrons in the central arm ...

Measurement of the top quark pair production cross section in pp collisions at √s=7  TeV in dilepton final states with ATLAS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A measurement of the production cross section of top quark pairs (tt) in proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider

HEAVY QUARK PRODUCTION IN γγ COLLISIONS [PDF]

open access: yesPhoton 2001, 2002
Current theoretical framework for the calculation of heavy quark production in $γγ$ collisions is reviewed. The importance of including direct photon contributions up to the order $α^2α_s^2$ and of the proper choice of renormalization and factorization scales in the evaluation of $σ(γγ\to Q\bar{Q})$ is emphasized.
