The influence of rivers on seabird foraging ecology

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rivers act as vital arteries to the world's oceans, delivering fresh water and nutrients that sustain marine ecosystems. Globally, river flow increasingly is being altered by climate change and anthropogenic pressures; yet the significance of rivers to predatory marine species, such as seabirds, and the extent to which river‐related changes ...

Analysis of the causes of thunderstorm winds caused by bow echoes under the background of Northeast China cold vortex

open access: yes暴雨灾害
Strong convective weather dominated by thunderstorm strong winds appeared in Liaoning Province in the evening of 25th June 2022. Eighty-two automatic weather stations across the province recorded thunderstorm strong winds of magnitude 8 or above.

Monitoring changes in precipitation and radiative energy using satellite data and climate models [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Current changes in the tropical hydrological cycle, including water vapour and precipitation, are presented over the period 1979-2008 based on a diverse suite of observational datasets and atmosphere-only climate models.

Rain water transport and storage in a model sandy soil with hydrogel particle additives

open access: yes, 2014
We study rain water infiltration and drainage in a dry model sandy soil with superabsorbent hydrogel particle additives by measuring the mass of retained water for non-ponding rainfall using a self-built 3D laboratory set-up. In the pure model sandy soil,

Classifying avian drinking behaviour: ecological insights and implications in a changing world

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Water is a fundamental currency of life, and its availability significantly influences animal behaviour, physiology and distributions. However, our knowledge around the dependence on water for drinking and the direct and indirect mechanisms driving related behaviours remains partial in the context of changing climates. Here, we review patterns

Strong Ventilation Drives the Aerosol Pollution Receptor Center and Its Interannual Variability in Central China's Twain‐Hu Basin

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
This study investigates the unique winter phenomenon in central China's Twain‐Hu Basin where high aerosol optical depth (AOD) centers coincide with a regional near‐surface wind speed maximum.

How wildlife respond to tropical cyclones: short‐term tactics and long‐term impacts

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT From butterflies to lizards and from sharks to seabirds, wildlife exhibit tactics to survive the impacts of tropical cyclones, also known as hurricanes, cyclones, or typhoons depending on where they occur. Some species seek refuge during the storm by moving, some remain in place and ride it out, and others move longer distances, avoiding the ...
