Water balance components of the potential agricultural grabens along the Rift Valley in northern Ethiopia [PDF]
Region: Ethiopia's Rift Valley. Focus: matching agricultural water demand and supply is a growing policy challenge in drylands. We investigated the water balance components in Raya (3507 km(2)) and Ashenge (80.5 km(2)) grabens. The rainfall depth, river

Global Nitrogen Deposition Promotes Carbon Sink Formation in Terrestrial Ecosystems
Nitrogen deposition alleviates ecosystem N limitation and enhances carbon sinks. Using 829 observations, we show 36% of deposited N is retained globally (39.15 Tg N yr−1), with distinct NHx and NOy contributions. This retention drives a terrestrial C sink of 0.88 Pg C yr−1 (25.48%), highlighting the importance of pool‐specific C:N stoichiometry ...

Major heavy rainfall events in China from April to October in 2021
Based on the daily precipitation data of 2, 424 stations and conventional weather chart data in mainland China in 2021, a statistical analysis of the main heavy rain weather processes from April to October of that year was conducted. The main influencing

Impact of multiple radar reflectivity data assimilation on the numerical simulation of a flash flood event during the HyMeX campaign [PDF]
An analysis to evaluate the impact of multiple radar reflectivity data with a three-dimensional variational (3-D-Var) assimilation system on a heavy precipitation event is presented. The main goal is to build a regionally tuned numerical prediction model

A frailty-contagion model for multi-site hourly precipitation driven by atmospheric covariates [PDF]
Accurate stochastic simulations of hourly precipitation are needed for impact studies at local spatial scales. Statistically, hourly precipitation data represent a difficult challenge.

Ultra‐flexible electrodes composed of single‐walled carbon nanotubes on a polymeric substrate exhibit excellent transparency, water resistance, and conformability to hairy surfaces. These non‐invasive nanofilms are easily pierced by trichomes, overcoming the structural barriers in plant electrophysiology.

A thermodynamical model for rainfall-triggered volcanic dome collapse [PDF]
Dome-forming volcanic eruptions typically involve the slow extrusion of viscous lava onto a steep-sided volcano punctuated by collapse and the generation of hazardous pyroclastic flows.
