Abstract This chapter considers prophecy in the Hebrew Bible. It is presented as literature which is rooted in the prophetic phenomenon but which no longer serves as a direct document of prophets in ancient Israel and Judah. The prophetic book is a genre of its own, owing its emergence to the scribal activity of the Second Temple period.
