Dam Break Simulation with HEC-RAS and OpenFOAM

open access: yes, 2021
A dam break is a natural disaster that can cause significant property damage and loss of life. It's useful to identify potential flooding areas downstream in the event of a dam break. In this study both HEC-RAS and OpenFOAM are set up to simulate the inundation map downstream of the Dworshak dam in Idaho.

Linking Remotely Sensed Hydromorphological Conditions With Biological Observations to Estimate Salmon Spawning Capacity

open access: yesEcohydrology, Volume 19, Issue 3, April/May 2026.
ABSTRACT Performing ecohydraulic assessments of salmon habitat is essential for planning and evaluating management actions. Current in situ and modelling approaches, although accurate, can be time‐consuming and expensive, which limits the areal extent of the study.

Improving a DSM Obtained by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Flood Modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
According to the EU flood risks directive, flood hazard map must be used to assess the flood risk. These maps can be developed with hydraulic modelling tools using a Digital Surface Runoff Model (DSRM). During the last decade, important evolutions of the

Hydrodynamic Modelling of Flexible Woody Vegetation With Delft3D FM: Implementing Physically‐Based 2D Flow–Vegetation Interaction Processes

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 4, April 2026.
We developed and made accessible to end‐users a numerical 2D hydrodynamic modelling approach with several advantages: reliable applicability to flexible woody vegetation from emergent to submerged conditions, and improved estimates of effective bed shear stress for sediment transport. Novelties compared to existing numerical models include a physically

HEC-RAS Model of Kahramanmaras Domuz (Bogaz) Stream Interception Channel

open access: yesDoğal Afetler ve Çevre Dergisi, 2019
Water, which is the source of life for living things, causes serious loss of property or life when it is not controlled. Additionally, the planned usage of water is of great importance nowadays when we feel the effects of global warming.

A Graph‐Based Deep Learning Approach for Daily Flash Flood Susceptibility Modeling in China

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Flash floods are sudden flood events triggered by intense rainfall, and often exacerbated by mountainous terrain that accelerates surface runoff. To support disaster mitigation and management, deep learning (DL) models have been widely applied to flash flood susceptibility (FFS) modeling. However, traditional deep learning (DL) models overlook

Assessing the Risk of 100-year Freshwater Floods in the Lamprey River Watershed of New Hampshire Resulting from Changes in Climate and Land Use [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
What is the coastal resource issue the project sought to address? Both the magnitude and frequency of freshwater flooding is on the rise in seacoast NH and around much of New England.

Integrating Modeled Flood Maps From the National Water Model and Diverse Sources for Enhanced Forecasting and Preparedness

open access: yesJAWRA Journal of the American Water Resources Association, Volume 62, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Flood mapping is critical for flood forecasting, preparedness, and risk management. In the United States, multiple federal agencies and organizations generate or archive flood inundation maps (FIM) using diverse models, data sources, and standards.
