Obstetric racism in Europe: Linguistic racism, exoticization, and uneven reproduction in the Netherlands

open access: yesMedical Anthropology Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract In this article, we conceptualize how Davis’ two concepts of uneven reproduction and obstetric racism—both rooted in the US context—are effectuated in the Netherlands. We consider uneven reproduction to consist of bio‐ and necropolitics, namely the management and regulation of a population's bodies, life and death.

Saccharomyces cerevisiae Yeast‐Based Supplement and Breast Milk Supply: A Randomised Placebo‐Controlled Trial

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, EarlyView.
Maternal brewer's yeast supplementation did not change the milk oligosaccharide (HMO) concentration, but more mothers felt their milk supply was increased, and fewer reported formula use by 6 months postpartum compared to those taking the placebo. This suggests the supplement may support breastfeeding, warranting further investigation in larger trials.

Speaking for Dionysus: Empathy and choral advocacy in Aristotle and Nietzsche

open access: yesOrbis Litterarum, EarlyView.
Abstract This essay argues for an abiding connection between empathy and advocacy by revealing their unrecognized parallels in Aristotle and Nietzsche. The argument makes three new claims. First, I identify an ancient form of sharing emotions, unnamed in but fundamental to Aristotle's Rhetoric, that I call “empathy by analogy.” Next, I show that the ...

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1478-1485, May 2025.
Under the surveillance of dual fluoroscopic imaging system (DFIS), the MCKOA side tibia showed more flexed and varus rotations and more posterior, lateral, proximal translations than its native side during daily extension, consistent with the extra medial shifts of contact patterns on MCKOA side tibial plateau.
