Mean ultimate pH values, sarcomere lengths, cooking losses, Warner-Bratzler peak shear values and compression values for the M. longissimus dorsi (LD) did not differ significantly between heifers, spayed heifers, heifers fitted with a HEIGRO(TM) device(∗) pregnant heifers (2 to 6 months pregnant) and steers, killed at 18 or 22 months of age, with mean ...

Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) (inulin clearance) has been studied in heifers which showed marked changes in weight over the test period. It is concluded that changes in GFR are not related to the weight of the animal, but are a characteristic of the animal. It is erroneous to use a standard weight as a common reference point for cattle.

SUMMARY A branchial cyst in a heifer was removed surgically. Diagnosis was based on clinical signs, analysis of cyst contents, and histologic examination of the cyst wall. Biochemically, the cyst fluid resembled a transudate. The cyst lining consisted of nonciliated, pseudostratifled columnar epitheliun and pigmented, keratinized, stratifled squamous ...

Cutaneous histiocytoma in a heifer
Journal of Comparative Pathology, 1987A young Friesian heifer developed multiple skin nodules. Histologically, the tumours appeared similar to the canine cutaneous histiocytoma. Over the next few weeks, the tumours underwent regression. These findings are considered to be consistent with a case of hitherto unreported bovine cutaneous histiocytoma.
