Environmentally adjusted productivity growth and shadow prices for dairy farms

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Agricultural Economics/Revue canadienne d'agroeconomie, EarlyView.
Abstract We estimate the environmentally adjusted productivity growth and shadow price for Ontario dairy farms. We use an input‐oriented directional distance function and farm‐level data from 2000 to 2020. First, we find that while GHG emissions per cow increase with higher milk yields, emission intensity decreases as milk yield per cow increases.

Survival rate of dairy heifer calves from birth to one year of age

open access: yesUkrainian Journal of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences
The study examined the survival rate of dairy heifer calves from birth to one year of age over ten years (2009–2018). The frequency of heifer calves' death in different age periods has been identified, and the frequency of calf death depends on the ...

Stayability in the Era of Early‐Challenged Females: Genetic Parameters and Correlations With Economically Relevant Traits

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to estimate the variance components, heritabilities and genetic correlations between four new different categories of stayability (STAY48‐2, STAY48‐3, STAY54‐2, STAY54‐3) with weight at 240 days of age (W240), weight at 450 days of age (W450), scrotal circumference at 365 days of age (SC365), age at puberty in males (APM ...

Cholecystectomy in a heifer

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 2017
A 10-month-old female Japanese black heifer presenting with sudden loss of appetite was diagnosed with extreme extension of the gallbladder. Laparotomy reaching from the right part of the 10th rib to the right flank showed an extended gallbladder greater than 50 cm in diameter.

Application of Genomic Random Regression Models for Genetic Parameter Estimations of Female Fertility Traits in Different Parities in German Holsteins

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to infer genetic (co) variance components and to estimate parity‐specific breeding values for the female fertility traits non‐return rate after 56 days, the interval from calving to first service and days open by applying random regression models on a time‐dependent parity scale. In this regard, we considered a

Veterinary meat inspection of bovine carcasses in the Czech Republic during the period of 1995-2002

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2003
The results of veterinary meat inspection classification of 4 000 372 bovine carcasses reflect long-term aspects of health status in cattle herds and the quality of transport and handling of animals at slaughterhouses.

Genetic Parameters of Age at Conception in Nellore Females Using Threshold Models

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Age at conception is a critical factor in the intensification of production systems. It is crucial for intensifying production, optimising reproductive efficiency and boosting Nellore female productivity for genetic progress. However, the low heritability estimates currently limit the effectiveness of selection responses, thereby underscoring ...

A multi‐sectoral community development intervention has a positive impact on diet quality and growth in school‐age children in rural Nepal

open access: yesMaternal and Child Nutrition
Poor diet quality (diet diversity and animal‐source food [ASF] consumption) during childhood negatively affects growth, development, behaviour and physiologic function in later life. Relatively less is known about the impact of poor diet on the growth of

Evaluation of Anogenital Distance and Anti-Müllerian Hormone Plasmatic Concentration as Potential Phenotypes to Predict Reproductive Performance in Holstein Heifers

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences
Anogenital distance (AGD) is a marker of the degree of prenatal exposure to androgens in multiple species, and it has been suggested that there is an inverse association between AGD and fertility.
