A novel method of Francisella infection of epithelial cells using HeLa cells expressing fc gamma receptor

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background Francisella tularensis, the causative agent of tularemia, is a facultative intracellular bacterium. Although the life cycle of this bacterium inside phagocytic cells (e.g., macrophages, neutrophils) has been well analyzed, the difficulty of ...

Poly A- Transcripts Expressed in HeLa Cells

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2008
Transcripts expressed in eukaryotes are classified as poly A+ transcripts or poly A- transcripts based on the presence or absence of the 3' poly A tail. Most transcripts identified so far are poly A+ transcripts, whereas the poly A- transcripts remain largely unknown. We developed the TRD (Total RNA Detection) system for transcript identification.

Counterintuitive Fluorescence Blue Shift in Symmetry Breaking Dicationic Bis(indolium) with Two‐Photon Absorption Properties for NIR Living Cell Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Highly water‐soluble dicationic bis(indolium) dyes have been prepared, showing excellent two‐photon absorption and light emission. Their fluorescence behavior discloses an unusual increasing blue shift with increasing solvent polarity, which, in parallel, is beneficial for enhanced detection in biological media.

Improve the Coverage for the Analysis of Phosphoproteome of HeLa Cells by a Tandem Digestion Approach

open access: yes, 2012
Complete coverage of all phosphorylation sites in a proteome is the ultimate goal for large-scale phosphoproteome analysis. However, only making use of one protease trypsin for protein digestion cannot cover all phosphorylation sites, because not all ...

Bioorthogonal Photoactivation of 2‐Nitrobenzyl Caged Doxorubicin Anticancer Prodrugs on Gold Nanostars

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bioorthogonal chemistry was applied to intracellularly photoactivate Doxorubicin (Dox) using gold nanostars (AuNSt) and near‐infrared (NIR) light. Two prodrugs were used: one photoactivatable, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl carbamate (proDox1) and another photolabile, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl diol (proDox2), which was attached to the AuNSt surface.

CD133+/ABCC5+ cervical cancer cells exhibit cancer stem cell properties

open access: yesHeliyon
Objective: This study explores the correlation between Forkhead box M1 (FOXM1) and ATP-binding cassette subfamily C member 5 (ABCC5) in relation to paclitaxel resistance in cervical cancer. It aims to identify potential cervical cancer stem cell markers,

Actuation of Cell Layers in Three Dimensions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The alignment of fibers and cells in living tissues affect their mechanical properties and functionality. In this context, one can draw an analogy between tissues and nematic liquid crystal elastomers. We explore this analogy by growing fibroblasts on 2D‐patterned substrates and observing the contraction of cell sheets upon detachment from the

HeLa-CCL2 cell heterogeneity studied by single-cell DNA and RNA sequencing

open access: yes, 2019
The HeLa cells are the earliest and mostly used laboratory human cells for biomedical particularly cancer research. They were derived from a patient’s cervical cancerous tissue, and are known for their heterogeneous cellular origin and variable genomic ...
