The Complete Chloroplast Genome of Synotis solidaginea and Phylogenetic Analysis

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 12, December 2025.
Species within the Asteraceae genus Synotis are difficult to accurately identify using traditional methods due to their highly similar morphology. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome of Synotis solidaginea was sequenced and comparatively analyzed.

Diagenetic processes controlled by volcanic detritus of the Lower‐Middle Permian Shanxi and Shihezi sandstone formations, North Ordos Basin, China

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 11, Issue 5, Page 1645-1668, November 2025.
Comparisons of Lower‐Middle Permian Shanxi and Lower Shihezi formations from the North Ordos Basin reveal that different types and percentages of volcanic detritus induced by active magmatic cycles can significantly change diagenetic evolution and favourable reservoirs.

Flight responses of blue sheep in Ningxia Helan Mountain National Nature Reserve

open access: yesFolia Zoologica, 2013
Ecotourism and off-road recreational disturbances can be threats to wildlife inhabiting protected areas. Here we investigate flight response patterns in blue sheep (Pseudois nayaur) inhabiting the Ningxia Helan Mountain National Nature Reserve, China. We found that flight initiation distance (distance at which animals begun fleeing a slowly approaching

Groundwater Altered Water Balance and Plant Water Use Efficiency in Desert Ecosystems

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 61, Issue 11, November 2025.
Abstract Groundwater is an important water source in water‐limited desert ecosystem. Less attention has been paid to how the water balance and plant performance in such ecosystems vary with the presence or absence of groundwater. Appropriate replanting strategies play a pivotal role in preventing desertification.

Save our Mountains

open access: yes, 2014
“Save our Mountains” is an eight-page brochure that makes a plea for conserving what “remains of the original American forest,” noting that logging is destroying a million trees per year and citing poet, Joyce Kilmer.

New Permian Paleomagnetic and Geochronologic Results From the Alxa Block: Constraints on Its Tectonic Affinity and the Closure of Paleo‐Asian Ocean

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 20, 28 October 2025.
Abstract The Paleo‐Asian Ocean's (PAO) closure timing and the Alxa Block's (ALB) tectonic affinity remain debated. We present new paleomagnetic and geochronologic data from Permian volcanic and sedimentary rocks in the ALB. Characteristic remanent magnetization (ChRM) directions from Early (∼282 Ma), Middle (∼268 Ma), and Late Permian (∼255 Ma) rocks ...

Data_Sheet_1_Coexistence mechanisms of sympatric ungulates: Behavioral and physiological adaptations of blue sheep (Pseudois nayaur) and red deer (Cervus elaphus alxaicus) in Helan Mountains, China.zip

open access: yes, 2022
Studying the coexistence mechanisms of sympatric wildlife helps to shed light on why the earth has so many different species. When ungulates share ranges, food and habitat requirements may partially or fully overlap.

Geographical Patterns and Drivers of Species and Phylogenetic Diversity of Desert Plant Communities in the Hexi Corridor, Northwestern China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 9, September 2025.
This study analyzes the spatial distribution and driving factors of plant species and phylogenetic diversity in Hexi Corridor, and points out that the central region has the highest diversity and that the climate and soil jointly regulate the diversity pattern, which is beneficial to the formulation of conservation strategies in desert areas.
