The genus Athroisma (Asteraceae, Heliantheae)

The palaeotropical genus Athroisma (Asteraceae, Heliantheae) is revised for the first time, and its general morphology is described. One hundred and ninety‐three new counts are reported for the tribe Heliantheae of Compositae, mostly based on determinations of meiotic material, including first counts for the genera Adenothamnus, Chrysogonum, Enceliopsis, Guardiola, Isocarpha, Lipochaeta, Otopappus, and Oyedaea, as well as first counts for 66 species.

Chemistry of the Heliantheae (Compositae)

In connection with the separation of the Heliantheae into subtribes, the relevant chemistry is discussed briefly. The different types of sesquiterpene lactones and polyacetylenes are the most characteristic features. However, in several groups other constituents are also useful. Still, not in all cases chemistry allows for a clear differentiation.
