Deep learning‐based laser weed control compared to conventional herbicide application across three vegetable production systems

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 8, Page 4922-4936, August 2025.
In 2024, trials in New Jersey and New York evaluated the effectiveness of laser weeding with a Carbon Robotics unit compared with herbicides on beets, spinach, and peas. Results demonstrated that laser weeding was as effective or superior to herbicides in controlling weeds, reducing biomass by ≥97% and boosting crop growth by ≥30%.

Correlation and path analysis in sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This study was carried out to determine the correlation between agronomic traits and seed yield of sunflower cultivars and also to determine the direct and indirect effect of analyzed traits on seed yield.

Avaliação de cultivares de girassol em savana de Roraima Avaliation of sunflower cultivars in savanna ecosystem of Roraima

open access: yesActa Amazonica, 2005
A cultura do girassol (Helianthus annuus L.) pode ser conduzida em diversas épocas do ano, destacando-se desta forma, entre as culturas viáveis de serem exploradas nas savanas (lavrados) de Roraima.

Genetic Analysis of Domestication Parallels in Annual and Perennial Sunflowers (Helianthus spp.): Routes to Crop Development

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
Parallels exist between the domestication of new species and the improvement of various crops through selection on traits which favor the sowing, harvest and retention of yield potential and the directed efforts to improve their agronomics, disease ...

Plant Morphology and a Phytochrome B Model Reveal That the Effects of Far‐Red Light on Shade‐Avoidance‐Like Responses Persist Under High Light Intensity

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 48, Issue 8, Page 5802-5818, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Several studies have concluded that high photon flux density (PFD) attenuates the effects of the red (R; 600–699 nm) to far‐red (FR; 700–750 nm) light ratio on morphology. However, the suppressive effects can depend on individual wavebands that modulate photoreceptor activity. We postulated that morphological responses of shade‐avoiding plants

Seasonal and Landscape‐Driven Variations in Forage Resources of Apis mellifera scutellata: Implications for Pollination Sustainability and Colony Health in Taita Taveta County, Kenya

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2025.
We used DNA metabarcoding to identify nectar and pollen plant species supporting honey bee nutrition across different landscapes and seasons in Taita Taveta County, Kenya. Forage availability was influenced by landscape and season, with exotic species (67%) dominating over native ones (33%), raising concerns about colony health and how the occurrence ...

¿Está domesticado el girasol? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Las especies vegetales cultivadas en la actualidad fueron el resultado de un proceso de domesticación, pero a menudo mantienen estrechas relaciones con las especies silvestres que las originaron.

A comparative study of invasive Helianthus annuus populations in their natural habitats of Argentina and Spain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Wild Helianthus annuus is native to North America but it naturalized in other parts of the world as well. Although the origin of exotic populations is uncertain, they have probably evolved very differently in different countries. To unravel the origin of

DNA endoreplication level in endosperm and in cotyledons during seed development in three dicotyledonous species

open access: yesActa Societatis Botanicorum Poloniae, 2014
The DNA content of nuclear and cellular endosperm and in cotyledons in the course of seed development in Helianthus annuus, Pisum sativum and Vicia faba was cytophotometrically measured after Faulgen's reaction.
