Helical winding’s magnetic field in power transformers
Electrical Engineering, 2009Helical winding is typically used for low voltage and high current winding of large generator transformers. Due to its distinct design (spiral form, small number of turns and high current), some additional eddy-current losses may be expected. Differences in magnetic field produced by helical and cylinder windings are presented in this paper.

On the instability threshold of a helical magnetic field
The Physics of Fluids, 1981The stability of a circularly polarized pump wave which is not necessarily a natural mode of the plasma has been considered, and it has been shown that the instability threshold can be much lower than for the usual case where the pump is a natural Alfvén wave.

Absolute magnetic helicity and the cylindrical magnetic field
Physics of Plasmas, 2011The different magnetic helicities conserved under conditions of perfect electrical conductivity are expressions of the fundamental property that every evolving fluid surface conserves its net magnetic flux. This basic hydromagnetic point unifies the well known Eulerian helicities with the Lagrangian helicity defined by the conserved fluxes frozen into ...

Field configurations in Helical magnetic wigglers
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1990We consider the field configuration produced in a system of two intercalcated concentric coils of radius a and pitch Λ carrying currents in opposite directions (magnetic wigglers). The magnetic field and vector potential inside are obtained exactly at the coils axis and in a multipole-type expansion off the axis.

Magnetic field lines in the helical torus
AIP Conference Proceedings, 1991Equation of magnetic field line can be written in the form of Hamiltonian equation. An explicit form for the Hamiltonian applicable to the first order of ρ/R is obtained, where ρ and R are minor and major radii.

Extragalactic Jets with Helical Magnetic Fields
2009Extragalactic jets harbor dynamically important, organized magnetic fields. We explore with grid-adaptive, high resolution numerical simulations the morphology of AGN jets pervaded by helical field and flow topologies. We concentrate on the long term evolution of kinetic energy dominated jets, penetrating denser clouds. The jets have near-equipartition

Exact magnetic field of a helical wiggler
Journal of Applied Physics, 1982Exact solutions are presented for the magnetic field of single and double current-carrying helical windings. The latter is a configuration used widely in free electron lasers. Differences are shown between the exact field and the simple form commonly assumed in analyzing free electron laser interactions.

On the stability of helical velocity and magnetic fields
Astrophysics and Space Science, 1978In this paper we study the stability of an infinitely conducting, incompressible, inviscid infinite cylinder with non-parallel helical velocity and magnetic field. It is shown that the system is stable if the energy in the φ-component of the velocity field is larger than that in the φ-component of the magnetic field.

Disruption Control by the Helical Magnetic Field
Fusion Technology, 1995The growth of m/n=2/1 tearing mode is studied numerically in a new kind of equilibrium magnetic configuration: a zeroth-order axisymmetric equilibrium field superposed with a small m/n=7/4 static h...
