Mouse inoculation for the detection of non-cultivable gastric tightly spiralled bacteria

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 1998
In the present study we compared the inoculation of swine gastric mucus into the stomach of mice, the urease test and carbolfuchsin-stained smears for the diagnosis of the infection with "Gastrospirillum suis" ("Helicobacter heilmannii" type 1), an ...

Molecular Characterization of the 16S rRNA Gene of Helicobacter fennelliae Isolated from Stools and Blood Cultures from Paediatric Patients in South Africa

open access: yesJournal of Pathogens, Volume 2011, Issue 1, 2011., 2011
Forty strains of H. fennelliae collected from paediatric blood and stool samples over an 18 year period at a children′s hospital in Cape Town, South Africa, were amplified by PCR of the 16S rRNA. Two distinct genotypes of H. fennelliae were identified based on the phylogenetic analysis.

Wildlife Pathogens and Zoonotic Disease Risk Assessment in Vietnam: A Wildlife Trade Hotspot

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Vietnam is a wildlife trade hotspot presenting multiple high‐risk interfaces for pathogen spillover from wildlife to humans. However, the zoonotic disease risk remains poorly characterized in the country and needs to be assessed to better inform policy dialog and legislative reforms.

Primary Gastric Lymphoma of MALT: Considerations of Pathogenesis, Diagnosis and Therapy

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Volume 14, Issue D, Page 44D-50D, 2000., 2000
Primary gastric lymphoma of mucosa‐associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) is a distinct entity with its own histological classification. Epidemiological, histomorphological, molecular biological and experimental data clearly underline that infection of the gastric mucosa by Helicobacter pylori plays an important role in both the development and progression ...

Comparative Genomics of Helicobacter pylori and the human-derived Helicobacter bizzozeronii CIII-1 strain reveal the molecular basis of the zoonotic nature of non-pylori gastric Helicobacter infections in humans

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2011
Background The canine Gram-negative Helicobacter bizzozeronii is one of seven species in Helicobacter heilmannii sensu lato that are detected in 0.17-2.3% of the gastric biopsies of human patients with gastric symptoms. At the present, H. bizzozeronii is

Pathobiology of Helicobacter pylori Infection in Children

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Volume 13, Issue 7, Page 599-603, 1999., 1999
In the paediatric population, the associations of Helicobacter pylori with gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenitis and duodenal ulcer, and with duodenal gastric surface metaplasia and disorders of the D cell‐G cell axis resulting in hypergastrinemia, are well established and in many ways resemble their counterparts in adults.

Transmission of Helicobacter pylori Infection

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Volume 13, Issue 7, Page 595-597, 1999., 1999
Helicobacter pylori infection is one of the most common bacterial infections worldwide. It is accepted as the major cause of chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, carcinoma of the distal part of the stomach and gastric lymphoma. However, how and when the infection is acquired remain largely unknown.
