Anatomia da Epiderme de Brácteas em Genótipos de Heliconia (Heliconiaceae)

open access: yesOrnamental Horticulture, 2007
Este estudo visa contribuir com o conhecimento anatômico da epiderme das brácteas de sete genótipos de Heliconia. A caracterização anatômica das brácteas informará acerca do grau de plasticidade ocorrente nas células da epiderme destas estruturas, além ...

Genetic Diversity and Relationship among and within the Bird of Paradise Plants of Strelitziaceae and Heliconiaceae [PDF]

open access: yes
Bird of paradise plants belong to families Strelitziaceae and Heliconiaceae, two close-related families in the Zingiberales order. This study aimed to study the genetic diversity and relationship of species among and within Strelitziaceae and ...

Chrysoperla externa (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) as a Potential Biological Control Agent of Raoiella indica (Acari: Tenuipalpidae)

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 4, Page 335-342, April 2026.
First and third instar Chrysoperla externa showed efficient predatory capacity at low R. indica density, but second instar C. externa exhibits a density‐dependent predatory ability. The lacewing C. externa shows promise as a biocontrol agent for R. indica in coconut because it consumed 8362 R. indica females across all its larval instars.

A review of non‐native scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Coccoidea) of Australia and the challenges in maintaining current and accurate pest lists

open access: yesAustral Entomology, Volume 65, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Over 870 species of scale insects, also called coccoids (infraorder Coccomorpha), have been recorded from Australia. Here, we systematically review literature, databases and collections to provide a revised assessment of non‐native species to Australia, for which we confirm those species that are introduced and extant in Australia (including ...

A Conservation Assessment and Phylogenomic Evaluation of Protection Status in the Tropical Genus Heliconia L. (Zingiberales: Heliconiaceae)

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 7, Issue 5, Page 1438-1457, September 2025.
The primarily neotropical plant genus Heliconia has been cultivated commercially in gardens and nurseries for hundreds of years. Many of these same species are ecological keystones in their native habitats as important resources for herbivorous insects and pollinating hummingbirds, yet they face threats of habitat loss and degradation, competition with

The role of insularity: Plants have few ornithophilous traits but are visited by morphologically more distinct hummingbirds in the Caribbean islands

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 7, Page 1678-1692, July 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Functional traits determine interactions between plants and pollinators, and to increase pollination efficiency, many plants have evolved traits to attract specific pollinator groups. However, biogeographical setting may influence trait evolution and biotic interactions.
