The Engineering Reliability of Shaft-Driven Helicopters
The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1963I am honoured to have been invited to give this Third Cierva Memorial Lecture on a subject which has a general application to all forms of aircraft, and which is central to any consideration of the future of the helicopter.Reliability is a problem, the extent and urgency of which can only be appreciated fully and at first hand by the operator of a ...

A Review of Engineering Developments in Helicopter Design
The Aeronautical Journal, 1969One of the most interesting aspects of the aeronautical endeavours of Henson and Stringfellow was their awareness of the impact of the aeroplane as part of an overall transport system. It is all too easy in the field of aeronautical engineering to become mesmerised by the engineering intricacies of what one is doing and so fail to see the vehicle as ...

A World Of Applications For Helicopter Electromagnetics To Environmental And Engineering Problems
12th EEGS Symposium on the Application of Geophysics to Engineering and Environmental Problems, 1999The variety of environmental and engineering applications for helicopter-borne electromagnetic surveys has increased in recent years. Helicopter EM surveys undertaken by Geoterrex-Dighem have been used for: l measuring soil conductivity near oil pipelines to assess corrosion risk, l estimating soil type and depth for pipeline planning, l mapping sand ...

Rethinking the Paper Helicopter
The American Statistician, 2005Box's paper helicopter has been used to teach experimental design for more than a decade. It is simple, inexpensive, and provides real data for an involved, multifactor experiment. Unfortunately it can also further an all-too-common practice that Professor Box himself has repeatedly cautioned against, namely ignoring the fundamental science while ...

Helicopter Engine Connecting Rod Failures
2019Abstract In a helicopter engine connecting rod, high-cycle, low-stress fatigue fractures in bolts and arms progressed about 75% across the section before the final rupture. Factors involved were insufficient specified preload, inadequate tightening during assembly, and engine overspeed.
