Traumatic arteriovenous fistula after ice axe injury 27 years ago: A case report

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract We report a case of a traumatic arteriovenous fistula (AVF) between the superficial femoral artery and femoral vein that went undetected for 27 years following an ice axe injury during a climbing accident in 1997. An AVF is an abnormal connection between an artery and a vein, where blood flows directly from the high‐flow arterial system to the

Building a Continental‐Scale Geodetic Network: The Plate Boundary Observatory (PBO)

open access: yesPerspectives of Earth and Space Scientists, Volume 7, Issue 1, December 2026.
Abstract The Plate Boundary Observatory (PBO) transformed the use of geodesy in North America to study crustal deformation and plate boundary processes by establishing a continental‐scale, standardized, open‐access geodetic network. Exploring Recreational Conflict on Shared Backcountry Tramping and Mountain Biking Tracks in Aotearoa New Zealand

open access: yesNew Zealand Geographer, Volume 82, Issue 3, December 2026.
ABSTRACT In a move away from exclusive use by modality, a number of shared tramping and mountain biking tracks have been developed in New Zealand. We ask: On shared tracks, what tensions arise and how are they experienced? Using data from online surveys of track‐users, we examine bikers' and trampers' perspectives and experiences of conflict.
