A cold plasma layer at the heliopause
Advances in Space Research, 1995Abstract The shocked solar wind plasma cools down by charge-exchange with neutral hydrogen of LISM origin. The effect accumulates in time and leads to creation of a cold, high density plasma layer spreading out from the stagnation point along the inner surface of the heliopause.

Reconnection at the heliopause
Advances in Space Research, 1989Abstract Views of the front side heliopause and different areas, where magnetic field reconnection takes place, are provided for various assumed orientations of the magnetic field of the local interstellar medium. Within these reconnection patches the lines of constant angle between the magnetic field of the unperturbed solar wind (standard Parker's ...

Plasma transport across the heliopause
Space Science Reviews, 1986Existing heliopause models are critically rediscussed under the new aspect of possible plasma mixing between the solar wind and the ambient ionized component of the local interstellar medium (LISM). Based on current kinetic plasma theories, effective diffusion rates across the heliopause are evaluated for several models with turbulence caused by ...

Analytical model of the heliopause
Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1996Recent multidimensional numerical simulations [Pauls et al., 1995] of the solar wind interaction with the local interstellar medium have produced a self‐consistent description of the interstellar neutral hydrogen at the heliopause. In this report, we develop a simple one‐dimensional model of the solar wind interaction with interstellar hydrogen which ...

Interaction of the solar wind with the interstellar medium leads to the formation of the heliosphere and termination shock. This article addresses three aspects of the plasma and magnetic field on two sides of the heliopause: (1) The interstellar magnetic field surrounding the heliopause.

Locations of the termination shock and the heliopause
Journal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, 1995The locations of the termination shock and the heliopause are restudied by taking into account the effects of pickup protons. The study uses available plasma and magnetic field data from Voyagers over a 14‐year period (1978–1991) and Voyager observations of the 1992–1993 radio emission event, outside 30 AU, pickup protons have a significant influence ...

Abstract Bob reaches down to help Miss Muxdröözol out of a hole she has fallen into while hiding from the alien ants. “Mr. Plex, she still has her legs. It’s normal for her species to lose legs and regenerate them minutes later. She has body-repair nanoparasites living in the left acetabulum of her pelvis, or so I’m told.

Reconnection Pattern at the Heliopause
1990Abstract By analogy with the case of planetary magnetospheres it is argued that magnetic field reconnection processes may play an important role for the plasma mixing at the heliopause /1/. Views of the front side heliopause and different areas, where reconnection can take place, are provided for various assumed orientations of the magnetic field of ...

Signature of a Viscous Interaction at the Heliopause
1990Abstract Observations of the solar wind interaction with weakly magnetized bodies in the solar system (Venus, Mars, comets) are used to define guidelines applicable to the region of interaction between the local interstellar plasma and the solar wind. In particular, a configuration based on a supersonic flow past a plasma obstacle is considered.
