Heliostat Field Layout Improvement by Nonrestricted Refinement

open access: yesJournal of Solar Energy Engineering, 2013
A new method for the heliostat field optimization is presented. The method is intended for further performance improvement after initial layout with a standard heliostat field layout tool. During the field refinement, the heliostats are repositioned around their original position, without or with little restrictions.

Mathematical formulation of a graphical method for a no-blocking heliostat field layout

Renewable Energy, 2001
The graphical method for a no-blocking radial staggered layout was introduced within the joint work between the Center For Solar Energy Studies (CSES), Tripoli, and Atlantis Energy Ltd, Bern. It locates the heliostats in the field of a solar central receiver plant so that they provide no blocking losses over the year.

Heliostat field optimization: A new computationally efficient model and biomimetic layout

Solar Energy, 2012
Abstract In this article, a new model and a biomimetic pattern for heliostat field layout optimization are introduced. The model, described and validated herein, includes a detailed calculation of the annual average optical efficiency accounting for cosine losses, shading and blocking, aberration and atmospheric attenuation.

Optimization of a heliostat field layout using hybrid PSO-GA algorithm

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2018
Abstract A mathematical model of the heliostat field and the PSO-GA algorithm are developed in Matlab to optimize a heliostat field and determine the highest potential daily energy collection (DEC). The heliostat field in Lhasa, China is analyzed as an example.

Pattern-free heliostat field layout optimization using physics-based gradient

Solar Energy, 2020
Abstract In this paper, the alternating direction method is proposed to perform heliostat field layout optimization, which includes two new strategies: (1) pattern-free layout optimization using the proposed physics-based gradient of optical efficiencies, and (2) new initial designs obtained by changing a scaling factor (k).

A new method for the design of the heliostat field layout for solar tower power plant

Renewable Energy, 2010
A new method for the design of the heliostat field layout for solar tower power plant is proposed. In the new method, the heliostat boundary is constrained by the receiver geometrical aperture and the efficiency factor which is the product of the annual cosine efficiency and the annual atmospheric transmission efficiency of heliostat.

A new code for the design and analysis of the heliostat field layout for power tower system

Solar Energy, 2010
A new code for the design and analysis of the heliostat field layout for power tower system is developed. In the new code, a new method for the heliostat field layout is proposed based on the edge ray principle of nonimaging optics. The heliostat field boundary is constrained by the tower height, the receiver tilt angle and size and the heliostat ...

Heliostat field layout optimization for high-temperature solar thermochemical processing

Solar Energy, 2011
Abstract The layout of the heliostat field of solar tower systems is optimized for maximum annual solar-to-chemical energy conversion efficiency in high-temperature thermochemical processes for solar fuels production. The optimization algorithm is based on the performance function that includes heliostat characteristics, secondary optics, and ...

Design and analysis of a heliostat field layout with reduced shading effect in southern Tunisia

International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2017
Abstract This paper dealt with the design and the analysis of a preliminary heliostat field layout with reduced optical losses caused by the blocking and shading effects. The study dealt first with the assessment of the optical losses resulting from the heliostat tracking motion. The developed heliostat field configuration is simulated in a region of
