ADJUSTMENT OF LARGE SOLAR OVEN FLAT HELIOSTAT HELIOSTATS

open access: yesEurasianUnionScientists, 2021
This paper presents an improved method for adjusting individual mirrors –facets of heliostats of a Big Solar Furnace (BSF) with a heat output of 1000 kW in Uzbekistan. Due to the fact that a BSF consists of 22,790 pieces of individual mirrors, the adjustment - setting a specific geometric position of these mirrors is very important.

Status and Current Sensitivity of the CELESTE Experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The CELESTE experiment uses the heliostats of an old solar farm in the French Pyrenees to detect gamma ray air showers by the atmospheric Cerenkov technique. CELESTE has been operating since November 1999 with an array of 40 heliostats fully instrumented

OSETI with STACEE: A Search for Nanosecond Optical Transients from Nearby Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We have used the STACEE high-energy gamma-ray detector to look for fast blue-green laser pulses from the vicinity of 187 stars. The STACEE detector offers unprecedented light-collecting capability for the detection of nanosecond pulses from such lasers ...

New Strategies and Simulation Tools to Optically Design a Field of Heliostats

open access: yesInternational Journal of Photoenergy, 2013
A heliostats field is an array of mirrors concentrating the solar power on a receiver, typically placed on a tower. Our research experience in the optical design of heliostats fields for Concentrating Solar Power plants suggested using apposite ...

Heliostat Cost Reduction

open access: yesASME 2007 Energy Sustainability Conference, 2007
Power towers are capable of producing solar-generated electricity and hydrogen on a large scale. Heliostats are the most important cost element of a solar power tower plant. Since they constitute ∼50% to the capital cost of the plant it is important to reduce the cost of heliostats to as low as possible to improve the economic viability of power towers.

Mrk 421, Mrk 501, and 1ES 1426+428 at 100 GeV with the CELESTE Cherenkov Telescope [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We have measured the gamma-ray fluxes of the blazars Mrk 421 and Mrk 501 in the energy range between 50 and 350 GeV (1.2 to 8.3 x 10^25 Hz). The detector, called CELESTE, used first 40, then 53 heliostats of the former solar facility "Themis" in the ...
