Gaseous $^3$He Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Probe for Cryogenic Environments

open access: yes, 2019
Normal nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) probes cannot be used to make high frequency resolution measurements in a cryogenic environment because they lose their frequency resolution when the liquid sample in the probe freezes.

Lower Metal Enrichment of Virialized Gas in Minihalos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We differentiate between the metal enrichment of the gas in virialized minihalos and that of the intergalactic medium at high redshift, pertinent to cosmological reionization, with the initial expectation that gas in the high density regions within ...

In‐situ asphaltene capture with iron oxide nanoparticles in steam‐assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) for improved recovery and partial upgrading of bitumen

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Key improvements obtained by incorporating nanoparticles into a lab‐scale SAGD process configuration. The bar plots show enhanced oil recovery, reduced viscosity, and increased asphaltene adsorption in nanoparticle‐assisted scenarios compared with conventional SAGD.

Pore characteristics and formation mechanism of high-maturity organic-rich shale in Lower Cambrian Jiumenchong Formation, southern Guizhou

open access: yesPetroleum Research, 2018
In order to investigate pore characteristics and formation mechanism in the high-maturity organic-rich shale of Lower Cambrian Jiumenchong Formation in southern Guizhou, the pore structure, pore type and storage properties are well studied through the ...

Volatiles in protoplanetary disks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Volatiles are compounds with low sublimation temperatures, and they make up most of the condensible mass in typical planet-forming environments. They consist of relatively small, often hydrogenated, molecules based on the abundant elements carbon ...

Evidence From Microscopy and U–Pb Geochronology as a Clue to the Influence of the Cretaceous Magmatism in the Diagenesis of Pre‐Salt Carbonate Reservoirs in the Santos Basin (Brazil)

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Carbonates from Santos Basin revealed U–Pb ages correlated with basalt ages (A), suggesting that they were formed during magmatic events. These events placed hot CO2 in the reservoir, which, when mixed with carbonate‐rich cold water (B), led to thermal convection, enabling the formation of the U contained in the carbonates.

Geochemical characteristics, origin and main controlling factors of helium gas accumulation of helium-bearing natural gas in Sulige Gas Field, Ordos Basin, China

open access: yesJournal of Natural Gas Geoscience
The Ordos Basin is the largest natural gas producing region in China. Recent discoveries of two helium-rich natural gas fields (Dongsheng and Qingyang) shows promising helium resource potential.

Geochemistry of Kauai shield-stage lavas: Implications for the chemical evolution of the Hawaiian plume [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We measured He, Sr, Nd, Pb, and Os isotope ratios and major and trace element concentrations in stratigraphically and paleomagnetically controlled shield-stage lavas from Kauai, Hawaii. The range of 3He/4He ratios (17–28 RA) from Kauai is similar to that

Mesozoic–Cenozoic Thermochronology of the Tarim–Southern Tianshan System, NW China

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Tectonothermal history of the Tarim–Southern Tianshan system compared with the major tectonic events at far‐field plate margins. ABSTRACT The Tarim Basin, an oil‐bearing basin in northwest China, is tectonically and sedimentologically linked to the Southern Tianshan Orogenic Belt.
