Closed‐Loop Recyclable Polyhexahydrotriazine Aerogels Utilizing N,N‐Dimethyl Lactamide as a Green Solvent

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
The synthesis of chemically recyclable polyhexahydrotriazine (PHT) aerogels, using N,N‐dimethyl lactamide, a nontoxic, label‐free solvent, is presented. The PHT aerogels exhibit low bulk density, high porosity, excellent thermal insulation, pronounced thermal stability, and enhanced mechanical performance. Furthermore, PHT aerogels can be depolymerized

Impact of Iron on the Crystallization of Rare Earth Sulphate Hydrates

open access: yesChemSusChem, Accepted Article.
Rare earth elements (REEs) are important for permanent magnets used in for example wind turbines and motors. There is an imbalance in supply and demand of this commodity and the REE have been identified as critical raw materials by the European Union. This study focuses on recovery of REEs from sulfuric acid solutions using antisolvent crystallization ...

Spontaneous and Laccase‐Assisted Adsorption of Hemicelluloses Rendering Colloidal Stability of Lignin Nanoparticles at Low pH

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
Here, a green synthetic approach through spontaneous adsorption and laccase‐induced reactions is introduced to functionalize lignin nanoparticles (LNPs) with hemicelluloses. The resulting lignin–hemicellulose hybrid nanoparticles presented increase colloidal stability at acidic pH compared to the plain LNPs, encouraging their usage in different areas ...

Synthesis of 19‐Hydroxyarachidonic Acid by Fungal Peroxygenases: An Experimental and Computational Study

open access: yesChemSusChem, EarlyView.
An experimental and computational investigation on the regio‐ and enantioselective hydroxylation of arachidonic acid by several unspecific peroxygenases (UPOs) revealed rAaeUPO A77L variant as the most attractive candidate for the selective production of valuable hydroxy‐fatty acids because of its enhanced regio and enantioselectivity and reduced ...
