Direct Monte Carlo simulation of nanoscale mixed gas bearings

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2015
The conception of sealed hard drives with helium gas mixture has been recently suggested over the current hard drives for achieving higher reliability and less position error.

Pulsed extraction of ionization from helium buffer gas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The migration of intense ionization created in helium buffer gas under the influence of applied electric fields is considered. First the chemical evolution of the ionization created by fast heavy-ion beams is described.

Helium-Abundance and Other Composition Effects on the Properties of Stellar Surface Convection in Solar-like Main-sequence Stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate the effect of helium abundance and $\alpha$-element enhancement on the properties of convection in envelopes of solar-like main-sequence stars stars using a grid of 3D radiation hydrodynamic simulations. Helium abundance increases the mean molecular weight of the gas, and alters opacity by displacing hydrogen.

Non-Sticking of Helium Buffer Gas to Hydrocarbons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Lifetimes of complexes formed during helium-hydrocarbon collisions at low temperature are estimated for symmetric top hydrocarbons. The lifetimes are obtained using a density-of-states approach. In general the lifetimes are less than 10-100 ns, and are found to decrease with increasing hydrocarbon size.

Characteristics of rare gas isotopes and main controlling factors of helium enrichment in the northern margin of the Qaidam Basin, China

open access: yesJournal of Natural Gas Geoscience, 2020
Based on the study of the geological background, it is considered that the main factors affecting helium enrichment in the northern margin of the Qaidam Basin (NMQB) are widely distributed rock masses, developed fractures, groundwater system, and more ...

Hydrodynamics in a cocurrent gas-liquid trickle bed at elevated pressures [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Data on design and operation of trickle beds at elevated pressures are scarce. In this study the influence of the gas density on the liquid holdup, the pressure drop, and the transition between trickle and pulse flow has been investigated in a tricklebed

Using the helium triplet as a tracer of the physics of giant planet outflows [PDF]

open access: yes
Hydrodynamic outflows, such as those observed escaping close-in gas giant planets, are not isothermal in structure. Their highly ionized nature allows them to cool adiabatically at distances beyond several planetary radii. The contrast between the hottest gas temperatures at around 10,000K and the coldest at around 1,000K triggers an excess population ...

Henry's law and accumulation of weak source for crust-derived helium: A case study of Weihe Basin, China

open access: yesJournal of Natural Gas Geoscience, 2017
Crust-derived helium is generated from the radioactive decay of uranium, thorium and other radioactive elements in geological bodies. Compared with conventional natural gas, helium is a typical weak source gas as a result of extremely slow generation ...

Advantages and disadvantages of substitution of helium as carrier gas in gas chromatography by hydrogen. Part II. - Retention time and selectivity.

open access: yesKvasný průmysl, 2013
Gas chromatography often uses helium, hydrogen, and nitrogen as carrier gases. The most common carrier gas is helium since it provides good separations, is inert, and is safe to use.

Reconstructing patchy helium reionization using the cosmic microwave background and large-scale structure [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
The intergalactic helium became fully ionized by the end of cosmic noon ($z\sim2$). Similarly to the reionization of hydrogen, helium reionization is expected to be patchy, driven by luminous quasars that ionize the intergalactic gas in their surrounding environment.
