Perforation Enhances Sound Insulation in Plate Lattice Metamaterials

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Herein, perforations are engineered into face‐centered cubic plate lattice metamaterials to convert normally detrimental openings into acoustically active features. Experiments, finite‐element analyses, and a reduced‐order transfer‐matrix model show that selected perforation geometries activate Helmholtz‐like and cavity‐mediated resonances, enhancing ...

Helmholtz resonators with added porous absorbers

open access: yes, 1994
International audience ; Helmholtz resonators often are combined with porous materials in order to increase the bandwidth of their resonances. A previous article [1] has treated perforated metal sheet covers on porous absorber layers. The results from this can be applied for normal sound incidence directly to Helmholtz resonators in which absorber ...

Accessing Both Electrochemical SEIRA and SERS With Highly Sensitive Metamaterials for Enhanced Molecular Identification

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Surface‐enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) and Raman scattering (SERS) are complementary, highly sensitive molecular detection methods. A reusable metamaterial substrate capable of combined SEIRA and SERS is used here for real‐time sensing, tracking interfacial dynamics in an electrochemical reaction and detecting symmetry‐breaking behavior at the ...

Nonthermal plasma approaches for combating implant‐associated infections: A compendious review

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Implant‐associated infections pose serious clinical challenges. Non‐thermal plasma (NTP) modifications overcome this bottleneck in distinct ways relative to traditional sterilization methods. Gas‐phase plasmas generate highly energetic species, UV radiation and reactive oxygen/nitrogen species (RONS), which alter the implant surface properties.

High‐purity X‐ray polarimetry at high energies for Mössbauer spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
This work extends high‐purity X‐ray polarimetry into the 15–30 keV range, enabling polarization‐filtered synchrotron Mössbauer spectroscopy of higher‐energy nuclear resonances. A proof‐of‐principle experiment at 22.494 keV demonstrates a polarization purity of (1.2 ± 0.5) × 10−8, establishing the feasibility of the approach.High‐purity X‐ray ...

PDE4D and PDE3B orchestrate distinct cAMP microdomains in 3T3‐L1 adipocytes

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Basal conditions: •Ins/PDE3B lowers cytoplasmic cAMP (cyt‐cAMP) without affecting plasma membrane cAMP (pm‐cAMP). •Insulin decreases lipid droplet cAMP (LD‐cAMP) independent of PDE3B. •FGF1/PDE4D modestly reduces both cyt‐ and pm‐cAMP, while PDE4D alone can modulate LD‐cAMP. ISO stimulation: •Ins/PDE3B has minimal impact on cyt‐cAMP.

Targeting KRAS for cancer therapy

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
In recent years, therapeutics targeted against KRAS proto‐oncogene GTPase (KRAS)‐mutant cancers have seen significant progress. Herein we outline the biology and epidemiology of KRAS alterations at the lineage and allele levels, reviewing the clinical evidence for KRASG12C inhibition from the discovery of the recessive switch pocket to sotorasib ...
