Pharmacotherapy of helminth infection

open access: yesExpert Opinion on Pharmacotherapy, 2009
In the first decade of the 21st century, worm infections are still very common, especially--but not exclusively--in the developing world. To review the current pharmacotherapy of the major trematode, cestode and nematode infections of humans.A systematic search of the Cochrane Databank of Controlled Trials and PubMed with MeSH terms (anthelmint(*) or ...

Field studies of Culex mosquitoes in Tanzania and Kenya: A systematic review motivated by changing Rift Valley fever virus transmission patterns

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
There were 275 studies reporting Culex abundance, 17 of which explicitly stated the motivation for the study was RVFV. Despite most studies being motivated by other topics, there was good coverage of studies reporting mosquito sampling in areas associated with the risk of RVFV outbreaks. Studies were c.

Immunization With Bovine Milk Casein Results in Enteric Nervous System Pathology in a Mouse Model of Neuroinflammation

open access: yesNeurogastroenterology &Motility, EarlyView.
Experimental study design. Mice were immunized with either α‐Lactalbumin or casein, and the resulting pathology of the enteric nervous system (ENS) was assessed using electron microscopy and immunofluorescence imaging. In vitro culture of isolated cells of the ENS was used to complement the in vivo findings.

Identification of β‐galactosidases along the secretory pathway of Nicotiana benthamiana that collectively hamper engineering of galactose‐extended glycans on recombinant glycoproteins

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary Glycosylation is an important aspect for many biopharmaceuticals, including vaccines against parasitic helminths. Plants, especially Nicotiana benthamiana, have proven to be excellent production hosts for biopharmaceuticals with tailor‐made glycosylation.

Staining of Parasitic Helminths by Extracts of Allium cepa, Juglans regia, and Rubia tinctorum: An Approach to Herbal Dyes

open access: yesIranian Journal of Parasitology, 2018
Background: Although carmine, as a synthetic dye, is the major substance for staining helminths, it may impose some adverse effects on human health. In the present study, we evaluated the aqueous extracts of onion (Allium cepa) skin, walnut (Juglans ...

Highly efficient transgene‐free ErCas12a RNP‐protoplast genome editing and single‐cell regeneration in Nicotiana benthamiana for glyco‐engineering

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
Summary Nicotiana benthamiana serves as a unique platform for biopharmaceutical production, offering advantages such as efficient and scalable protein synthesis. In addition, custom N‐glycans can be engineered on biopharmaceutical glycoproteins. Yet, plant‐native glycosyltransferases and glycoside hydrolases need to be removed to prevent undesired ...
