Behavioural and community ecology of plants that cry for help [PDF]
ABSTRACTPlants respond to insect herbivory with the production of volatiles that attract carnivorous enemies of the herbivores, a phenomenon called indirect defence or ‘plants crying for help’. Plants are under selection to maximize Darwinian fitness, and this can be done by making the right ‘decisions’ (i.e.

FoxO1 signaling in B cell malignancies and its therapeutic targeting
FoxO1 has context‐specific tumor suppressor or oncogenic character in myeloid and B cell malignancies. This includes tumor‐promoting properties such as stemness maintenance and DNA damage tolerance in acute leukemias, or regulation of cell proliferation and survival, or migration in mature B cell malignancies.

Notes on Coalgebras in Stylometry [PDF]
The syntactic behaviour of texts can highly vary depending on their contexts (e.g. author, genre, etc.). From the standpoint of stylometry, it can be helpful to objectively measure this behaviour. In this paper, we discuss how coalgebras are used to formalise the notion of behaviour by embedding syntactic features of a given text into probabilistic ...

Experimental evidence for kin-biased helping in a cooperatively breeding vertebrate [PDF]
The widespread belief that kin selection is necessary for the evolution of cooperative breeding in vertebrates has recently been questioned. These doubts have primarily arisen because of the paucity of unequivocal evidence for kin preferences in ...

Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) affects nearly one‐third of the global population and poses a significant risk of progression to cirrhosis or liver cancer. Here, we discuss the roles of hepatic dendritic cell subtypes in MASLD, highlighting their distinct contributions to disease initiation and progression, and their ...

Happy Are Those Who Grade without Seeing: A Multi-Task Learning Approach to Grade Essays Using Gaze Behaviour [PDF]
The gaze behaviour of a reader is helpful in solving several NLP tasks such as automatic essay grading. However, collecting gaze behaviour from readers is costly in terms of time and money. In this paper, we propose a way to improve automatic essay grading using gaze behaviour, which is learnt at run time using a multi-task learning framework.

Photoproduction of large-mass lepton pairs at HERA as a probe of the small $x$ structure of the proton [PDF]
The photoproduction of Drell-Yan lepton pairs at HERA is studied. We show that in the backward rapidity region the cross section is strongly sensitive to the small-$x$ behaviour of the quark distributions in the proton, and that with sufficient luminosity it should be possible to distinguish singular $xq \sim x^{-1/2}$ behaviour from standard Regge $xq
