The Splanchnic Hematocrit in Man
Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1963AbstractThe aim of the present work was to study to what extent the difference between the total body hematocrit and the hematocrit of the blood in the large vessels is caused by a low hematocrit in the splanchnic area. 131I‐labelled albumin and 51Cr‐labelled red cells were injected into an antecubital vein and samples were drawn simultaneously from ...

The Role of Hematocrit in Efficiency of Dialysis
Blood Purification, 1990To test the role of hematocrit (Hct), particularly when in the nearly normal range, on efficiency of dialysis, we analyzed the urea kinetics for 36 metabolically and hematologically stable patients on regular dialysis treatment and for 7 patients from this group before and after 3 months of treatment with human recombinant erythropoietin (rHuEPO).

[The hematocrit and atherothrombotic cerebral infarcts].
Rivista di neurologia, 1986The authors compare the hematocrit values of 131 patients suffering from an acute cerebral atherothrombotic infarct, confirmed by CT scan, with those of 165 controls of the same age and sex. Both the analysis of the average by the Student's t test and the comparison between the distribution of frequencies by the chi square test, point out that ...

An hematocrit that has proved satisfactory because of its accuracy and simplicity and the small amount of blood required has already been described.1Recently, the efficiency of the instrument has been improved, by the substitution of a mechanical sealing device for the rubber band originally employed for the purpose of closing the lower end of the ...

Epigastric Pain With Falling Hematocrit
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1979History A 56-year-old woman was admitted with severe epigastric pain after having eaten a large meal. The patient was diaphoretic and had tachycardia. The pain radiated across the abdomen and was suggestive of biliary colic. The blood pressure was 110/70 mm Hg, with a regular pulse rate of 144 beats per minute.

Microvascular Hematocrit of the Lung
1986Microvascular or capillary hematocrit plays an important role in determining the flow resistance and oxygen uptake in pulmonary capillaries. We shall review in this chapter the methods to quantify the microvascular hematocrit of the lung and to provide a critique on the measurement methods or their interpretation.
