[Hematologic changes in renal neoplasms].

Minerva medica, 1984
The main haematological parameters, particularly haemoglobin concentration and the numbers of leukocytes and platelets, were studied in 146 kidney tumour patients. Only 119 of the subjects studied later underwent nephrectomy. In 66 patients the tumours were limited to within the renal capsule (group I) while in 39 other subjects the tumours had gone ...

[Hypocholesterolemia in hematologic neoplasms].

Sangre, 1997
To evaluate the cholesterol metabolism in oncohaematologic patients and its inclusion as a biochemical marker as well as other parameters in the diagnostic period (leukocytes, deshidrogenase lactate, erithrosedimentation, haptoglobine). Many different epidemiological studies discuss the relation between the high risk for cancer mortality and low blood ...

Cellular Origins of Hematologic Neoplasms

New England Journal of Medicine, 1990
The entire hematopoietic system in all its complexity arises from a small number of stem cells that not only differentiate but also replenish the bone marrow by a process of self-renewal. These stem cells supply the marrow with committed progenitor cells that become the main hematopoietic cell types.

Cytogenetics of Hematologic Neoplasms

2005
Cancer is a genetic disease that could develop either from a predisposing mutation followed by acquired somatic mutations or from an accumulation of somatic mutations that develop into a cancer phenotype. Many different types of DNA alteration have been reported in cancer, with some of the recognized forms being as follows: Subtle DNA or RNA ...

The Cytogenetics of Hematologic Neoplasms

2012
The knowledge that cancer is a malignant form of uncontrolled growth has existed for over a century. Several biological, chemical, and physical agents have been implicated in cancer causation. However, the mechanisms responsible for this uninhibited proliferation, following the initial insult(s), are still object of intense investigation.

[Systemic mycoses in hematologic neoplasms].

Schweizerische medizinische Wochenschrift, 1983
Between July 1973 and June 1981 systemic fungal infections were found in 27 of 270 autopsies of patients with hematologic malignancies: in 16 aspergillosis, in 6 candidiasis, in one aspergillosis and candidiasis, and in 4 mucormycosis. The frequency increased from 6% during the first 6 years to 25% during the last 2 years (p = 0.025).

[Interferon therapy in hematologic neoplasms].

Wiener klinische Wochenschrift, 1988
Interferons are new and effective agents in the treatment of various haematological neoplasias. Alpha-interferon (natural or recombinant) has a high efficacy (90% response rate) in hairy cell leukaemia. Complete remissions are, however, rare and definite cure of the disease is unlikely.

[Lipid profile in hematologic neoplasms].

Recenti progressi in medicina, 2003
Abnormal blood lipid profiles have been reported in human malignancies. So, it is likely an overall involvement of tumoral cell metabolism. The aim of this study was to evaluate clinico-biological implications of altered lipid profiles in oncohaematologic patients. The plasma lipids, lipoproteins and apolipoproteins were determined at the time of ...

Psychological Aspects of Hematological Neoplasms

2012
In an era of evidence-based medicine, it is important to choose psycho-oncology treatments that are as efficacious as possible. Psychosocial cancer care that is ineffective may be worse than no care at all.

[Hematologic neoplasms with testicular involvement].

Archivos espanoles de urologia, 2016
We report two cases of patients with a previous diagnosis of hematologic tumor who present with testicular recurrence, and we carry out a review of the literature regarding the infrequency of this pathology. We present a retrospective review of the medical records of two patients diagnosed with hematologic malignancies (acute myelogenous leukemia and ...
