Abstract A consecutive series of 21 adult patients with chronic subdural hematoma was studied in respect to postoperative resolution of subdural collections and clinical improvement after burr hole evacuation without subdural drainage. This series was compared to a previously studied series of patients with chronic subdural hematoma in ...

Chronic Subdural Hematoma in Women
World Neurosurgery, 2017Sex differences in various diseases recently have been recognized as an important factor in the approach to more efficient preventive and therapeutic medicine. We clarified sex differences in the clinical characteristics of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) by comparing men and women with CSDH, as there is a well-known male predominance in the ...

Complications of the chronic subdural hematoma
Clinical Neurology and Neurosurgery, 1976Eighty three chronic subdural hematomas, obtained by surgery or by necropsy, were examinated. The patient age distribution curve of the non-complicated operative cases showed the highest incidence in the first year of life and also a moderate increase in the elderly group.

Intrauterine Chronic Subdural Hematoma
Archives of Neurology, 1977We discuss a newborn delivered by elective cesarean section who had macrocephaly with severe anemia. The anemia was corrected by exchange transfusion, and the infant, at first, appeared stable but manifested poor feeding and seizures. Transillumination of the skull was negative, although the anterior fontanel was tense.

Posterior Fossa Chronic Subdural Hematoma Associated with Supratentorial Chronic Subdural Hematoma
World Neurosurgery, 2022Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) in the posterior fossa has until now been reported in only 16 patients. This study clarified the frequency and characteristics of the posterior fossa CSDH through the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with supratentorial CSDH.We retrospectively examined presurgical MRI findings in patients with ...

Spinal Chronic Subdural Hematoma
Neurosurgery Clinics of North America, 2000Although chronic subdural hematomas are rare, they are likely to be more frequently reported as the clinical and magnetic resonance imaging characteristics become defined. Chronic spinal subdural hematomas (CSSDH) are extremely rare; these hematomas are frequently spontaneous and related to minor trauma.

The Danish chronic subdural hematoma study—predicting recurrence of chronic subdural hematoma
Acta Neurochirurgica, 2019An increasing incidence of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) and an unchanging high recurrence rate of 10-20% call for individualized treatment. The aim of this study was to establish individualized prediction models for the risk of recurrence treating death as a competing risk.A retrospective national cohort of unilateral CSDH was included for analysis.

Seizures in Chronic Subdural Hematoma
New England Journal of Medicine, 1961MANY of the basic works in neurology comment on the rarity of seizures in chronic subdural hematoma.1 2 3 Indeed, it is almost a maxim in many neurologic centers that the two are only rarely associated. Recently, at the Boston City Hospital, several cases of chronic subdural hematoma have been seen in which seizures were a prominent part of the ...

Management of Chronic Subdural Hematoma
Contemporary Neurosurgery, 2015Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a common condition in neurosurgical practice. A CSDH is defined as an “old” collection of blood and blood breakdown products in the subdural space, developing over a period of longer than 14 days. CSDH has a high prevalence, ranging from 1.72 per 100,000 in the general population to 58 per 100,000 in the elderly (≥65

Prognosis of Chronic Subdural Hematomas
Neurosurgery Clinics of North America, 2000This article considers factors that may be of prognostic value in evaluating the chronic subdural hematoma (CSH) patient. It also examines conditions that predispose the development of a CSH. Variables such as admission neurologic status and presenting symptomatology are reviewed.
